"Dwarf" planet - how discriminatory of the astronomers!

Wait until 2015 when a spacecraft reaches it - then it will be pics or STFU.

I wonder if there are Hobbit planets ?

That's more of a black hole or possibly a full moon rather than a planet.

Shouldn't we be calling them "Little Planets"? Dwarf seems oddly hairy for them.

Further to this point, calling them "Dwarf PLANETS" still means they are planets right? Or are Dwarf People not People? ;-)

Planet is an arbitrary term which perpetuates the myth that certain stellar-orbital-objects are in some way superior to other stellar-orbital-objects. They should all be called stellar-orbital-objects to get away from this discriminatory terminology.*

*Except comets. Comets are fudgeing shark cods. Coming here, taking our jobs, buying our property and marrying our women. Fudge them.

Hang on.  The comets already here are fine.  It's just those inter-galactic fudgeers we hate.

Pluto should be a planet again. It might be less weighty than Eris but it is bigger and "lighter". It is also 2 km's wider than first thought.

It's not that straight forward. Having switched to a dwarf planet Pluto will now need to satisfy eligibility criteria and seek an exemption to become a planet again.

As far as I know this would be quite difficult to do as Pluto hasn't yet got the infastructure to use a fax machine.

Real Madrid have their Galacticos, Los Angeles has their Galaxy and Wellington now has a moon that orbits around something that may or may not be a planet.

I bet Terry knew it existed a few years back. Could have sold it and cleared all his debts

No - he would have had to sell it to first time planet owners from this solar system rather than to inter-galactic speculators who could pay top Triganic Pu.

To obtain Planet status Pluto must satisfy the following:

Any stellar-orbital-object who ... [assumes] a new nationality and who has not played international asteroid baiting [in a match ... in an official competition of any category or any type of asteroid baiting for one Galactic Association] shall be eligible to be called a Planet only if it fulfills one of the following conditions:

(a) It was born in the solar system of the relevant Association;
(b) Its geological parent was born in the solar system of the relevant Association;
(c) Its geological grandparent was born in the solar system of the relevant Association;
(d) It has orbited continuously for at least five years after reaching the age of 18 in the solar system of the relevant Association.
