It's pissing me off now 'cos I've heard it before...

(not having a go at you repeating the question, Tonyg, I mean I have heard the question and seen the answer somewhere before)

You could do it with Chester and Colchester but their full names are Chester City and Colchester United

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Ahh thank you for the clue Jag.

Chester City becomes Manchester City.

Ta da.

Three for me, and two for them.

D'oh. Never saw that one coming

Here's one:

Who is the only player to score in a Manchester, Merseyside and Glasgow derby?

Didn't Ray Wilkins spend some time at Rangers?  He never played in Scouseland as far as I am aware.

God this is bugging me.

I get the feeling it was around the time that Souness took a load of English up to Rangers, but I can't think who it could be.

Give me a clue - what decade, and nationality (ie british or Johnny Foreigner?)

Mmmkay how about this one folks and folkesses, make sure to read the question thoroughly so you understand it properly:

Which player has scored in both the World Cup final and European Cup (Champions League) final, where he was on the losing side in both games, the score was the same in both games and both games were played at the same stadium?

Three for me, and two for them.

Don't start me on Mark Hately, although I can tell you he had regularly been voted the worst ever player ever having played for the hoops. He didn't score for QPR. He couldn't score in a brothel.

Mark Hately shares that dubious title with none other than Ned "The ground is too hard for me" Zelic. They are the top two names coming forward whenever some QPR fan runs such a pole on the various fan websites.

So your player either played for Everton or Tranmere Rovers!

Yup. I don't think I'll be giving too much away by saying that it wasn't Tranmere Rovers.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Not ray Wilkins.

He's not British. Mostly 90's

Didn't Michael Ball play in them all, although I am not sure he scored in any.

I am thinking that they played for Everton, Man City and Rangers.......although that is based on nothing and not helping me.

I have been looking for questions now, and liked this one:

Sunderland won it in 1979, and Villa won it in 1981 - who won it in 1980?

The other one I used to ask a lot was this:

who played in goal in Bobby Moore's last international game?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite

Bob Rigby I think. For Team USA vs England, 1976. Bobby Moore was playing for Team USA. If it wasn't Rigby it was Arnie Mausser.

Process of elimination rules out most modern players like Zidane or Del Pierro, Breitner never scored in a Euro Cup final, nor did Rummenigge or Neeskens, so that means going back a bit further.
Which leads me to the 1961 European Cup Final, in which Benfica beat Barca 3-2. But anyone who knows of European Cup history should know that two Hungarians scored for Barca that day, Kocsis and Czibor.
And Czibor scored in the 1954 WCF 2-3 loss by the Hungarians to Germany, Puskas got the other.
so the answer is Czibor of Hungary, at the superbly named Wankdorf Stadium.
And I think his first name was Zoltan.

Shouldn't this thread be in general football? I nearly missed it cos I thought that Off Topic was for people to talk about the Super 12 or whatever.
And I'm glad I found it, this sort of crap is really up my alley (as Rock Hudson once said).

I did mean, "which English player" HN.
On the subject of Perry Cotton, is it true that he was invented by Beatrix Potter? His name suggests he was.

I was even more abstract than I expected. At least the England vs Team USA was a real game, rather than a ficticious piece of David vs Goliath nonsense. That I thoroughly enjoyed.

You got it. Onya.
Debut in the 1965-66 season, the same season Sir Stan retired. Last game in 1996-97 (for The Os), Beckham debuted the year before.
Budgie Burridge debuted in 1970-71 (for Worthington, yes, Worthington, in the league) and played his last game for Darlington in 1995 - although I think he played for Queen of the South in Scotland after that.
