For next year I have to choose whether to keep Science and drop either French or HIstory or do French and History and no Science. I was thinking maybe to keep Science because at a young age it cuts off alot of career paths for me but I don't really enjoy it. Opinions??

Yeah. I'd drop it personally, cos I hate science but i did Level 2 Bio for the exact reason that to not do it would cut off heaps of possibilities. Its hard to say. French and History would probably be more enjoyable (depending on teachers, I guess). Up to you. I struggled through a year of science though, but it was slightly easier for me because I did some sh*t a year ahead so I knew I could pick up subjects later on.

Drop French. Such a waste of time. Almost as bad as Classics!

I assume you are talking about the advanced course? I was in the same position as you last year and had to choose. I chose science eventually and have found it quite challenging this year, and I have few regrets about not doing French. Also History is awesome so do it.

I honestly don't know how you find that to be true. IT won't help you in your future career (well most likely) and you have to memorise it if by heart. I was terrible at it in Year 9 so perhaps my view is tainted though I know of plenty of others who agree with me.

Yeah, I know loads of people who hate them. I guess it depends on what you want to do. In New Zealand there isn't much need to do French and that, especially compared to Europe. But meh. My mum basically forced me to do Spanish cos mine was/is so terrible! But I enjoy it.

I'd recommend dropping french because its the only one that can't come back to bite you. If you do decide you want to continue it, plenty of places have classes.

Mmm, true. You could even pick it up at Uni if you really wanted to.

I personally find that languages (i take Japanese) are easy and fun to learn. I'm not too sure if it's the way I learn or my brain-type or whatever, but they are my favourite!

Am studying Japanese and History today. Japanese isn't too much of a battle but History holds a bucket load of information.

I think you are right Torne in that same people are just naturally good at languages. I am planning on starting to study from today, starting with Maths which I cocked up in mocks.

We didn't do Speech- we did this reserch report. Which was mega intense, hah, but glad i passed! And we did 3.7, 3.1 and 3.5 (?) in the mid years for just A or NA and so I couldn't be bothered to go much harder than that, although I got M for one of them. I don't like Stats much, but English is great! You?

Just do the easiest course your school has to offer. NCEA makes it so there is no reward for harder subjects, therefore,go easy and get excellences.

Not really. You just need to more foundation/basic courses.

Neil: [on his final exam] It was terrible. I sat in the big hall and put my packet of polos on the desk, and my spare pencil and my support gonk and my chewing gum and my extra pen, and my extra polos and my lucky gonk, and my pencil sharpener shaped like a cream cracker and three more gonks with a packet of polos in each, and lead for my retractable pencil and my retractable pencil, and my spare lead for my retractable pencil, and chewing gum and pencils and pens and more gonks and the guy said "Stop writing please."!

In Year 11 I was able to get out of giving a speech because they are without a shadow of a doubt the scariest thing in life.  In Year 12 they made me give a speech so I got a note from mum (good old mums) and kicked up a whole load of faeces and eventually I only had to give it in front of 8 people.  Still scary as hell, mind.

My only exam for uni is on Nov 2.  It's Greek History (Classical History) and the lecturer gave us a sheet of paper with 10 questions on it for us to go over, and from that sheet four questions will be asked (of which we are required to answer 3 in essay form).  Not a bad deal at all.

No,they really dont. From memory you could get uni entrance in 6th form, from basic math and english. It was ridiculously easy anyhow.

Edit: [Quote]
University Entrance under NCEA
  • 14 credits at Level 3 or higher in an approved subject  +
  • 14 credits at Level 3 or higher in an approved subject  +
  • 14 credits at Level 3 or higher in no more than 2 domains or approved subjects
+ Literacy and Numeracy Requirements*
  • 14 credits in Maths at Level 1 or higher  +
  • 4 credits in Reading at Level 2 or higher  +
  • 4 credits in Writing at Level 2 or higher

Yeah...so pass one approved subject in 7th form. 5th form math,6th form english you can fail mostly as long as you pass one reading and one writing paper.

My understanding of it was that you needed the basic English and Maths in year 12 but you still needed to get Uni Entrance at year 13.  To get UE you had to get 14 credits in three different approved subjects (one of those subjects could infact be a combination of various different approved subjects).  If you didn't get this then you had to do a bridge course at uni.

That's how I understood it anyway, could be wrong.

EDIT:  Ah, just saw your edit Tegal.  Makes sense.
