Saw them in Brissy the week before I buggered off... bluddy awesome... though not quite in the league of Oasis at Earls Court in '01... THAT was an awesome show (way better than when they pissed around at Queens Wharf and Liam had a tanty in about '98... tho big bro on his own was worth the ticket price to be fair).

Who the feck is Michael Schenker, Wasp and Foghat???? Are they house bands at the U/Hutt Cossie Club? hehe... (tongue is firmly in cheek, but serially - never heard of or from them).

So thats a yes then LG?  They are the house bands at the Cossie?

MSG were a great band. Still doing the rounds. Schenker's a bit of a nutjob tho'. personally, i prefer the Scorpions. Their latest album is awesome.

Wasp! Any band who can write a song called "Animal, F**k Like A Beast" can't be that bad!

I'm more into chill out stuff but my fav rock music would be Queen of the Stone Age, Kyuss, The Distillers are the shiz, Muse is okay for over produced rock. Love Kasabian as well as the Libertines and Babyshambles. The Gossip is pretty decent for chick rock, like updated Babes in Toyland. aaaannndd.. can't go wrong with Foo Fighters. I want to have Dave Grohls babies. Oh, Nirvana of course as well. From the muddy banks of the Wishkah is my favourite out of live and studio albums. Heaps more but should be studying rather than rambling. Oh - Kings of Leon are awesome as well.

If you're looking for new stuff try www.last.fm and type in the name of a band you like, it'll stream similar bands song by song so you can jot down the ones you like. Sometimes hit and miss but it' good.

If you want any indie folk suggetions I'm your girl ;)

Most of my CD's are still in Aussie (incl From the muddy banks...) so I'm gonna go have a cry now!

haha - that sucks.. you'll be reunited one day.. until then I hope you converted them and backed them up so you can at least listen!

When I came over from melbourne I have a huge suitcase full of CDs and DVDs and ps2 games and one backpack for clothes. Got my priorities straight lol.

I've heard of them but haven't heard any stuff.. will check it out tho. :) thx

The Black Keys are playing at the front room on the 28th of June in fact.. now to try and drag my nu-metal fan boyfriend along for a bit of musical education. sigh.

anyway whoever started this thread should check it out.. they are going to be awesome live. Kind of like a more grungy version of Kings of Leon with link wray style guitaring. I'm shaky with excitement. or caffiene. probably the caffiene.

Weezers new Red album is brilliant. Loved it instantly during the first listen. Very rare for me.

The best bands, and as they all feature guitar, bass and drums they are all rock bands, are, in order, The Jam, Buzzcocks, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols, Ramones.

Did you watch that documentary on the ramones the other week? Awesome stuff on it. London Calling has to be The Clash's signiture tune - also a favourite with QPR fans. The Jam, SLF, Buzzcocks, all interesting. I used to listen to The John Peel show - 10pm-midnight (RIP JP) and learned some excellent music. Talking heads, before they became famous, The Plasmatics, Cockney Rejects, The Fall and The Stranglers. I was never a punk but i did enjoy some Punk Music. The Sex Pistols version of "God Save The Queen" being an all ti me punk classic.  Or "My Way".

Generalisation. You're talking about mainstream stuff that gets marketed like f**k by record companies.

Not really, have you liistened to the top 40? it sounds today exactly like it did this time last year with only the names changing.

Major record labels are stuck in a rutt, refusing to innovate or release challenging music. Most of the truly original music that charts tends to have been by bands that were originally on independent labels and met with significant comercial success. But of course charts are going to sounds similar one year to the next, musical fashions last several years, look back 10 years and the music sounds distinctly different.

Back to major labels though, they know what sells and try to sell it themselves, and then keep selling it. Underground bands get big because of major label distribution, all major pop music styles started out underground and were brought to the surface by major labels. I just wish those major labels would take risks rather than trump for what is selling at any particular moment.

In short, major labels exist to make money. Not help make an artistic impression on the world.
