Yes it's the remake. Almost shot for shot it's the same but when you've seen the original the remake just does not have the same impact.

Shutter Island any one? Just watched it tonight. Thought it was pretty good

When I saw Shutter Island, took me about 10-15 minutes to figure out the whole movie.

Was rather disappointed with that as I'd really been looking forward to it.

Interesting that you picked up on it so early. The twist was amazing.

Interesting - I see a lot of those type of movies, so perhaps I'm more attuned to hints and clues.

What was your conclusion and why?

Have seen it twice, but not for a while, so from memory:

1. Scene on the ferry at the start when Leo talks to his partner gives a very strong hint/clue that Leo killed his wife.

2. When discussing the 'missing' patient, it is stated numerous times she refused to accept the reality of her actions. If you got the clue 1, this leads you to realise that Leo's character is actually in this position.

3. The dream sequences with his wife (especially when she mentions what turns out to be his real name) and the girl are dead giveaways - not even subtle.

From memory I'm guessing all these scenes happen in the first 15-20 minutes, which lead you to believe that Leo killed his wife, and that his wife killed their children, and that he was just a patient at the facility who's coping with the horror of it all by inventing a new reality for himself. The rest of the film pretty much just fills in gaps/provides more detail, until Ben Kingsley spells it out all over again, using a blackboard, just like at school. To ensure everyone got it, I guess.

As someone else mentioned, the director manages to give sufficient doubt in the audience that many people will go back and see it again and he'll make more money.

Also he has a fear of the water and that old lady with thin hair who looks like gollum does the 'shoosh' sign to him, kind of implying it's a roleplay and telling him not to tell anyone llike she's been told not to tell anyone.

Yeah I'd figured it out after about 20mins.

Rec2 is on Rialto tonight for those that have not seen it.

I watched "The Mist" yesterday. Was quite good. Comes in two versions on the Bluray DVD ($14.95 - bargain). One viersion is in colour and then the directers preferred version which is in black & white which adds to the atmosphere. Brilliant and unpredictable ending -even if you have read the short story.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

One of my favourite Scorsese films, I like it better than Scarface. Actually I like most of his films more than Scarface; Departed, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island.

But not that big a fan of 'The Color of Money' 'Raging Bull' 'Taxi Driver' (Might give the last two a second watch)

Scarface is directed by Brian De Palma, not Martin Scorsese - are you thinking of Goodfellas??

Haha wtf I was def thinking Goodfellas, but some reason typed Scarface. I'm pretty sure I had imdb open at the same time too. Most likely watching a podcast at the same time too. Multi-tasking ftw

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Anyone else seen "In an Better World"? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1340107/

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Went and saw Hall Pass yesterday. Considering I hadn't heard anything from anyone about this movie, I was pleasantly surprised at how funny it was.
The spa pool scene was just so wrong.

I watched Love and other drugs last night, which contained a surprising amount of Jake Gylenhall (sp) and Anne Hathaway f**king.  A really surprising amount.

She may be slightly odd looking, but Anne Hathaway of giving me a boner.

Watch Paranormal Activity 2 last night.  What a sh*t movie.

Family gets their house trashed and instead of installing better locks and alarms etc, they install camera everywhere.  Lameo.  Plus the ending sucks monkey balls.

Caught up on a heap of films I missed.

'Animal Kingdom' is pretty good, thought it was going to be a 'Australian Godfather' in plot when it was first introducing characters and showing protagonist.

'The Town' was one that was hyped up, it was good not great and not as good as 'Gone Baby Gone' both by Ben Affleck.

Toy Story 3, was quality, 'Easy A' was good too, 'Prince of Persia' crap (although Gemma Arterton), 'Race to Witch Mountain' average.

Recently I have seen Despicable Me (enjoyable, made me cry), Green Hornet (pretty average, made me tired), Precious (very good, made me sad although no tears) and the Runaways (pretty good, made me hum Crimson and Clover a lot to myself for the past week)

A pointless movie, struggled to connect with the star, went on far too long.

Finally watched Ghost Writer with Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan.
I suppose you can't have a happy ending with a title like that, but if the film finished a few seconds short, I'd have been content.

Watched The Town last night, quite enjoyed it. Thought it was real good, and was surprised considering Ben Affleck directed it and plays the lead role.

Fuck this stupid game
