fav restaurants anyone? in terms of price/food/service etc.

i really like Miyabi on Willis, good Japanese food

I went to Citron once and it was the best meal i've ever had - expensive as though!

today i went to Chef's Choice at the top of Cuba - really yum Indian food - $8.50 for a lamb korma with delicious bread...

I love eating out. Always been a fan of Chow, particularly on 2-4-1 Mondays. And Kazu (both of them).

I know it's not a restaurant, but Midland Sushi really is Christmas. Cheap, yet so good. Stoked that they're opening a second one in the Chew's Lane Precinct. So much closer to work and arch school!

Oool, and very excited that Wagamama is coming to Wellington. Only been to the Metropolis one in Auckland and that was great.

Being a student in search of a quick, cheap and a well sized meal, i cannot look past satay kingdom, left bank, cuba street. they have also opened another shop just across the road (oriental kingdom), same food, a little bit more expensive, flash plates. So satay kingdom wins.

edit: oh, and while you mention curries, I went to a place in Newtown last night and got a mango chicken curry and it was out of this world. sorry - thats their motto. spice planet i think they are called

Rasa on Cuba. At lunchtimes they have a $10 special.

You get a curry (goat is yum), rice, roti and a mango lassi

Is good.

Dinner is about double that though for the same feed.

mmm I love Capitol, and for the cheap you can't go past satay kingdom as stated earlier.

curly fries at sweet mothers are also good.
But last couple of times they havent had them  which is kinda gutting.

Go around the corner to Satay Village for the best Rendang's in Wellington (Beef or Chicken) and for a Mee Goreng, the Asian kitchen on Victoria Street is the dominant winner.

Wellington - Maria Pia's in Thorndon has great service and - the benchmark by which I jWelludge all Italian places - great tiramasu. La Casa Pasta is pretty good too but alas, they don't have tiramasu! And of course we can't go past Raf's pizza cart...

Tauranga - Took the missus to Volare, great service, great atmosphere, and the pasta con pollo I had was DIVINE. Tiramasu was kinda lacking though. La Barca and Bella Mia are both firmly established family favourites, though I usually spend more time at the latter for gelato than food.

As for non-Italian food, all I can really say is Little India in Wellington = Aachari Lamb, Garlic Naan and Monsoon Beer...good stuff.

In the left bank, just below Champs, and further back from Satay Kingdom is a good value Mexican place, run by Mexicans.

Top tacos!

Restaurants I really liked in Wellington:

* Citron - excellent degustation (sp?) menu, which is well worth the money it costs.  I also recommend getting them to match the wine with each course.
* Martin Bosley's Yacht Club - class.  Probably the best meal I had in Wgtn (although I recommend calling it Martin Disley's yacht club, just to annoy the wife).
* Hope Bros - food is ok, but it does chips with gravey (mmmmmmm, nothern boys love gravy).
* Crazy Horse - best steak in town, bar none.
* Boulcott St Brasserie - great service by the guy who looks like Carrot Top.

I thought the White House was very average, and the Last Supper Club and Matador (unsure of name - up Cuba Street) were over-rated.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

You want fish n chips?  Go to Athena, Onepu Rd, Lyall Bay.  Great chips, they probably cut them themselves, none of this bagged frozen sh*t.  Nice fish, i think it's whareou, nice texture, as opposed to tasteless soft hoki cr*p.

Not in Wellington City, but theres an amazing Japanese/Thai Restaurant in the mighty Porirua. By the
bottom entrance to the Shopping Centre, opposite the BP station. Brilliant.

And Dennys.

Yeah, degustation at Citron is fantastic. Also Logan Brown for another fine dining choice or The Arbitrageur in Willis St.

Sweet momma's is excellent. 88 in Tory st is very good if you like Vietnamese (and in your entertainment book in case you've got one), Catch for Sushi and Capitol is a good night out. The General Practitioner is pretty good too.

I was at Amberli (Marjoribanks St) for dinner on Sat night, very nice Saltimbocca starter, the duck main was perhaps a little too salty for my liking, but a very nice Valhrona Choclate dessert with brandied muscadets. Excellent wine selection as well.

Try the Lustau Pedro Ximinez with the Vahlrona desert... stunning.

I did like Amberli, but I think I preferred the previous incarnation as the Roxborough Bistro.  Cafe Bastille seems to have gone downhill since Mark Limacher gave it up as well.

Great Kedgeree

I managed to smash their front door to smithereens a couple of years ago on a windy day!
Went in but left the door open behind me, gust of wind caught it, slammed it shut and showered me in shattered glass, I got a bit of a fright to say the least.

Way, way off topic, Au Franc Pinot on the Ile St Louis in the middle of Paris.
The waiter said, rare or medium, I said well done, in fact cook it twice.   Stone walls three storeys high.   Massive wall hanging carpets and multi layered dinning so you can stare at everyone else but not hear them.
Jazz club upstairs, very good wine.  Lots of atmosphere.

You shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a steak.
