As a kid in the 70's/80s I loved "Cup Final Day" - TV coverage started early with the build up at the players hotels, highlights of previous rounds, quizzes, the team bus leaving hotel & arriving at Wembley etc - magic.

The first Cup Final I went to was 1979 (age 11). My dad thought we'd missed our opportunity in the first semi final game v Liverpool & didnt think United would win the replay (2 x cracking games btw & still get goosebumps when I watch the highlights & hear Motson scream "Jimmy Greenhoff" as he heads the winner).

My Dad had said "if we win the semi we'll go to Wembley". He didn't get home from work until about 11.00pm so didn't know the score & I remember him creeping into my bedroom at about 6.00am the next day as he headed out to work again to ask "did we win?",

As a kid I didn't fully appreciate how hard it would have been to get tickets & I only realised a few years later it was through his football/business career contacts (particularly at Everton FC & Liverpool FC) that enabled me to not only goto this & some subsequent cup finals but also attend some pre/post match functions.

The flag I got at the 79 Final is now in my sons room (I'll post a pic plus something I like from an Emlyn Hughes Testimonial Dinner when I'm back in NZ).

The 79 final is memorable for many reasons & athough the result mattered...it didnt matter - I was there with my Dad.. Thanks Dad. RIP

A recent pic of Liam Brady reminded me of the above post:

- my flag & one scarf, worn on the right wrist 70's style :-). On either side it says "FA Cup Winners 1977" & "Follow United into Europe". I cant immediately find my woolen scarf I wore on the left wrist or what I remember as a dinner plate size rosette so will have to tear the house apart until I find them !

- Menu from Emlyn Hughes Testimonial Dinner complete with cigar/gravy stains ! Some legendary signatures - I like how the great Bill Shankly's stands alone.

- Ray Clemence Testimonial Brochure.

Whilst having a "spring clean" of my wardrobe, i found some Fever Tees from 2007-2011  all in brand new condition Retro Ricki's, got a Daniel one with his autograph on it. What a goldmine for me. Thanks YF for those Tee's you put out for sale and fund raising. Those were good days, just like we have now.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

i picked up this phoenix shirt framed from 09, the story goes that it is a paul ifill shirt that he swapped with one of the hurricanes players back in 09 when the 2 teams got together for promotional stuff, may of been midlands park, feel free to correct me if i have that wrong. i got this off the players son a few months ago. i am going to get it re framed as the back of the frame is a bit tatty and also going to get the framers to undo top of shirt so i can be sure that it is an ifill shirt.

Excellent score. I doubt if the player's son realised what he had!

I don't have much other than a couple of Liechtenstein shirts (one is last year's beautiful away red shirt you can't buy - I emailed the FA directly), a Barbados shirt bought in Barbados, a Roma scarf from the last league title... And a signed Roma shirt with a hand written message by a guy you might have heard about, Francesco Totti

Truly horrific shirts supporting Australia's doomed World Cup hosting bid

Just saw this thread and thought I'd contribute, I don't own a lot of memorabilia but got this through interesting circumstances

Few years ago on my OE in London, I was working for a Kiwi crowd called Kiwi Movers doing furniture removals. One day we're sent to a job in North London to move a guy from a house, to the house over the road. Rock up and find out it's Ivan Gazidis the CEO of Arsenal, he's moving over the road because the rents cheaper ( such an Arsenal thing to do ) .

Anyway during the course of the day he tells us if we see anything Nike in his house, we can have it because Arsenal had just signed a Puma sponsorship deal and he couldn't be seen wearing Nike gear. So we end up with bucket loads of shoes, tops, gear etc. Then I saw this jacket in a cupboard and ask him the story about it and he explains he was the treasurer of the MLS prior to coming to Arsenal. I told him how cool I thought the jacket was and he says I can have it! Since found out it's a super rare Jeff Hamilton jacket, no idea of current value but they were around $800USD in 1996! 1996 was the inaugural year of the competition and this was the first ever AllStars game.

Sorry for crappy photos, took these about 5 years ago on a garbage phone.
