Worm Farm - The second generation

What are they called worm cubs, wormlets?

I've heard that when you introduce a new dominant male into the farm he kills all the baby worms sired from the previous male. Oh wait - that's Lion worms.

I've been trying to find the old ad for Wylie the Worm - advertising Thibenzole and Novaben (Licensed...animal...remedy)

"G'day. I'm Wylie the worm. And I make sheep and cattle squirm.
There's millions more just like me. We're one big happy family"

The dry leave mix works wonders - kept the worms warm over the cold snap and the flies have buggered off (or died of cold?)

Sorry for the delay the strange happenings were down to an invasion of Chompopolis. King Chomp the Mighty had a major battle with a Warband of marauding MAGGOTS! . King Chomp was victorious after an engagement spanning a couple of days.

I rewarded the Chompions with some left over rice which they went mental for. I have expanded the nursery and King Chomp has had many fine sons.

Things I have learned:

a) Be careful with meat even if you have had it pickled by Bokashi, maggots will get to it.

b) Rice is the wonder food. If you need to give your worms a boast then chuck some in.

c) Sprinkle garden lime/or sepcialist worm-lime stuff to freshen up the farm.

I also used some soggy old leaves from the gutter, they love this.

Disaster!!!!!!

Chompopolis is no more!!!!

I've noticed over the last couple of days that the farm has turned into a huge gloopy mess. I've just been out and noticed lots of dead anemic looking Chompians.

I put this down to:

* Over-feeding
* Rain getting in turning the food/bedding mix into mud.
* Oxygen starvation

The only consolation was that I added the next tier, as they were thriving about 3-4  days ago, so some have escaped upwards a bit like in Battlestar Galactica after the Cylon attack. So I've named their leader Commander Adama.

Will this be enough? Who can tell...

Interesting. I never have any problems with a compost bin outside. Just throw anythig in and end up with thousands of worms.Just not grass clippings.

May be a bit before your time but "Space 1999" might be more appropriate - Moon Base Alpha gets blasted away from Earth (assume your worms weren't attacked by mechanical worms).

Great sci fi TV in true shonky Dr Who tradition of unrealistic models and the cast wearing unbelievably skin tight uniforms (or was the UFO I'm thinking of).

Anyway back to the worms.

Looking at this again I see that Sylvia and Gerry Anderson (Stingray, Thunderbirds etc) were behind it.  Makes sense.

Nope mate I had one of the Green Eagle Dinky Toys, the one where you could remove the sort of livingquaters/shipping container in the middle. GOES OFF TO GOOGLE...

I also had thunderbird 2 and the Enterprise, b*stards where all different scales but didn't matter when you were a kid.

Yeah I often get a bit depressed when I think of the toys I had and how most were wrecked or lost, how much they would be worth today, etc?

But then I think f*ck it they were heavily played with. Action man always died by being shot by a Nazi sniper near a "cliff's edge", resulting in him plunging to his death from a great height, screaming in a high pitch voice. (sometimes pleading for mercy, "No! No! Arggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!)

Action man always had a satisfying way of looking after he hit the ground, arms and legs everywhere, jeez what a little psycho I was.

My UFO Interceptor still had it's "massive" missle up to last year when Junior Capes misplaced it. My Thunderbird 2, in a completey wrong colour, still has the small plastic T4 inside. That probably makes it about as valuable at the 1972 ESSO FA Cup Coin Collection!

As for Action Man.. I got given a parachute for Xmas one year. I spent years throwing it up, out from my bedroom window waiting for the chute to open only to wacth him go "smash" on the concrete below.

Oh.. my worms are OK at present and still prodcuing about 2.5 litres on quality liquid fetiliser a week.

I'm slightly disappointed!

I have an idea what they are worth today (occassional sideline in second hand toys) but nothing I owned is saleable.  Moving on to model making and resprays of certain Matchbox cars was probably not the greatest of ideas.

My brother had T2, still have two Thunderbird fours around as well.

For me the combination of plastic models (WWII mostly) and the availabilty of tom thumbs and double happy firecrackers was a very expensive hobby.

Anyway... big-cat worms.

Is the worm Cmdr Adama based on the 1970s TV series or the this-century one (a bit more "adult themed")?

Only in England. Just a reference point really for me for things you think might worth a lot until you look on eBay. Current worth about 3 quid. Mine is staying on my wall now it's made it here to NZ

Just had a strange flashback, I was about 4 and I remember picking up one of those coins and looking at it around a mates house that used to look onto the towns football pitch, I'm back there now his house always smelt funny/fruity  like old candyfloss. His mum was fat as f*ck and he was crossed eyed.

I'm back there now holdeing one of those coins....

Good choice FT

It also gives you the option of developing your worm farm into a Ponderosa style ranch - free range worms!.... You could be on to a Bonanza!
