Who really gives a sh*t about his sexual preferences. If the guy is a good referee, let him do the job! There's plenty of hetro refs that should not be allowed near a football pitch!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I'm usually the first to stick up for the gay community, but this case doesn't seem like straight out (no pun intended) discrimination, but more like him possibly wanting his cake and eating it too.
He wasn't fired for being gay - at least not technically, though it may have been the intention. He was fired due to a policy that anyone excused from compulsory military service for health reasons - a very reasonable policy. If you're not fit enough to serve, you're not fit enough to ref.
The problem stems from him being released from service in the first place. There is no legitimate reason why homosexuals can't serve in the armed services. Whether or not one believes it is a medical impairment, it should not be excuse for draft dodging.
So this begs the question - did he exploit his homosexuality to escape the service, or was he also unfairly dismissed (to no protest) from the military?
I don't know the whole situation, but it comes off like he used his sexuality to obtain a medical discharge, without wanting the consequences of a medical discharge. Which is just plain wrong IMO.
The man should be allowed to ref, no questions there, but I wouldn't call him entirely innocent unless news comes out he was unfairly dismissed from the military too.

The Turkish flatmate back in London explained that compulsory military service could be shortened by a year if you did something crazy or claimed you didn't fit in. But you have to prove it, in his case offering the medical officer a hot chilli sandwich and then eating it. The medico wrote the discharge papers on the spot.

Agreed RW, it's a technicality but he was sacked because he didn't complete his military training. So really its not the Turkish Football organisation who are at fault, they've sacked him legitimately, if he was kicked out of the army due to being gay, then the army may want to look at themselves and get their shiz sorted.

He was kicked out of the Army because when he was instructed by his Superiors to "Polish his weapon"...
