We (the American company that I finish with next week... maybe) have centres (not Call Centre's, but IT sorta stuff) in Bangalore and Mumbai with a wee one in Brissy... (plus a couple in Europe and the US).

They're so much cheaper... just wait until the chinese work out how to push buttons and speekee engrish... it'll be all over.

I did a voice over for a Call Ctr training course yesterday and put on a fake Indian accent, oh the irony (I guess you had to be there). Big news here yesterday with F&P closing going offshore too, they have a Frudge plant here in Brissy - not good news!

Sorry to read your news FM. If your an accountant and/or web designer then let me know :)

PS: or if you can paint lol

I have just found out my contract is not getting renewed (getting rid of all contractors in the department), so I am back on the bench again in a couple of weeks.

I am going to sit in the park drinking special brew everyday until someone offers me a new job, and recommend that everyone else in this position does the same.

Now then, where can I find a mangy dog to take with me?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Me too Football Mum, except we've been told sweet piss all by the Bank as to whether our jobs are safe or not. All they're saying is that there looking at it somewhere in the next 3-6 months.

I'm a Union delegate, and we've just had meetings today about the "Business Transformation" and what our plan of action is. Definately not going to take it lying down, that's for damn sure

So yeah, I know how you're feeling mate, and a lot of people are feeling pretty screwed over as well. If ya need any info or just want to vent, PM me.

Even though I'm a born and bred hibby and former season ticket holder at ER, I always make a beeline to the diggers for a pint of 80/-, tolerating all the jumbo paraphernalia hanging from the walls, made sure I got there and caught up with a jambo mate whilst sinking a few when I was over Xmas before last.
Unfortunately, McEwans said it was no longer financially viable to produce cask conditioned 80/- (I think the Diggers was the only place shifting it), so ceased production  - the diggers were on their last few barrels when I was over. You can now get run of the mill kegged 80/-, but the diggers have also sourced a brewer in East Lothian to produced a cask conditioned 80/-.

It's not all despondency, redundancy can be a good thing. I've been "surplus to requirements" twice, both times when I was a rep in the printing industry. The first was after 7 years with NZFP and I got a decent payout, the second after only two years with SICPA (ink manufacturers) and they gave me an extra 6 grand on top of the redundancy in lieu of the counselling I'd supposedly need. So it worked out OK and pointed me in the direction of a career change which I've never looked back from.

Not saying you should be feeling good about it or anything, but it can turn out to be a real silver lining.

you with jobs should be thankful that you have them.  I have been unemployed for over 2 months now, and it is tough - I wrote a poem about it:

job
where are you?
why do you taunt me so?
An interview, no luck
Is it because I am fat?
You don't judge on the colour of my skin
or the use of my legs
but only the size of my belly
weightest bastards
I'll have a chip butty before Will and Grace starts

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

When I got made redundentt from TeleCON back in 95, we were stood down for 10 weeks before we could get a benefit and because most of us had A/L owing and got paid on it, we were stood down for an extra 5 weeks. 15 weeks without help. After tax there wasn';t much left in the redundancey payment either.

Perhaps when we consider payouts that some of us have received we should remember workers in the Meatworks or F&P who, as i am led to believe, get given a couple of weeks notice and a pat on the back...perspective is useful...
