Horror-canes - The Fever Union thread
Massive thanks to them, after that performance it makes me less depressed about being a Highlanders supporter. Well untill this friday.

Good win on Saturday for our lads, bit scratchy but still nice to start with a win.
Bit gutted about the highlanders result. Although to lose from 19-0 is a bit depressing.

I went to the game - got given free tickets, utterly biored by 10 mins in, took the crowd till the 75th minute to start the "Hurricanes" chant - if you can call it that - won't be going back even if it is free!

So your a fair weather supporter?
And the lost by 4 points to a team that is odds on to make the top 4....
Hardly a situation where they "should have won easily"

They wont be consistant till they get a proper first 5/8, they have promising players in the position but they look out of their depth.
Carlos Spencer wants to return to NZ, could be worth someone in the region grabbing him as a temp measure whilst others develop, if Manawatu didnt have a disfunctional relationship with the Hurricanes they would be the best choice.
There is some talent in the regions, Kirkpatrick (Wellington), Ripia (Taranaki), Berquist (Hawkes Bay), Cruden (Manawatu) but will be a few yrs till one of them is challenging for the AB's.

Your other problem there though is the Blues still just have Lavea and Gopperth... suspect they would be working hard to keep him.

I think this year we might see the lack of depth left by Evans & McAlister be exposed. The Chiefs have the only proven first 5/8 of the kiwi teams, and the Crusaders have the best 2 prospects.

Probably shouldn't comment on the Canes but the answer at First Five is so blaring f**king obvious, lets give up on the pretence that Piri is a halfback, I think hes a better five eight than Donald and would be my back up for the All Blacks. Piri should and will be the first five when he comes back, with him there they have quality across the park

Weepu MUST play first-five, and would have, had he not been injured.
Quite simple really...the sum of Matthewson + Weepu is greater than the sum of Weepu + Ripia/Kirkpatrick.

Also does anyone know where I can find the development XV table?
Or are they just friendly matches?
Just friendly matches, although I don't think that many teams have development teams anymore. The Canes don't, although a Wellington development team has a game in the next couple of weeks.
And LF1 is exactly right, make the most of the resources you have which mean Weepu and Mathewson must start. His passing game suits Ma and Conrad running games to, Piri gives the Canes the option of playing at the line which suits our outsides. Willie and DK are more in the pocket players

My sister reckons there were only four Canes players making any sort of real effort. Her and my nephew have been ever presents at the canes & Lions games for the last 3 or so years. They are not impressed with Cooper and Mini me. seems like there's a "Bro" club in the organisation and if there is, it needs to be weeded out and the canes should be getting the best performing players in the team, not those with big reputations. Nonu had his usual hanging on to the ball too long type game.

That just increases the Hurricanes chances.
Nonu passes wind more often then he passes the ball.

gangsta you seem to be supporting the wrong team to make a comment like that....whilst nonu was one of the players who didn't turn up last week he was hardly the only one at fault. His passing game is not as bad as everyone seems to think.None of the outside backs got any decent ball hence they were out of the game for large periods.
Definsively we are in trouble without Nonu, attack wise we lack the big man in the middle.

But Gansta is correct. Nonu has become a legend in his own mind and his performances are reflecting it. He needs a reality check so that the skill can be brought back to the fore.

LG - if you listen to Nonu talking about his performance he is sorely dissapointed in how he started, that man is not one of the egotistacal idiots the rugby breeds.....he's as modest as they come. He's spent long enough as an apprentice to Umanga to deserve the accolade of best #12 in the country.....

The only other decent 12 around at the moment is Bateman and Nonu is a much better player than him. All the NZ teams are struggling at 12.
I'm not a fan of Ellison, don't think he has ever really delivered at Super Rugby level, Kawau always performs for Southland will be interesting to see how he makes the step up for tonight. Glad to see Vito get a run though it looks like the weather wont be great for him style of game.

*sigh* its just like last yr all over again, couldnt score in a brothel despite having alot of ball and position, and conceed late points to lose. Before the game, I expected a 21-20 loss in the last min, was pretty close sadly.

I watched the replay tonight.
Did anyone notice one of the commentators call the Hurricanes "The All Blacks"?
