I used to play inline hockey and couldn't work out why they sub team members every minute or so till i tried staying on for 5mins - its bloody tiring and that was when I was super fit. Blading at a decent speed burns more calories than most exercise and uses the glutes, quads, adductors and abductors more than any other sport except maybe skiing
blading is easy... stoping is whats hard. tho blading is also great for meeting people as jst single out a person you fancy then crash into them... apolagising profusely

also i first practised my blading outside the R0F and was up there the other day. when its not being used you can make an ass of yourself without a care plus it has long runs and some areas are supa smooth so can get some decent speed up. oriental bay can be a pain on nice days cause you're always having to weave round the hordes

you really need to be able to supa blade to play hockey cause need to be able to stop on a dime or you smack into the walls and you tend to spend loads of time hitting concrete anyway. i usually look like a poster child for womans refuge over hockey season and i have major ice hockey padding imported frm vancouver

geez I'm harldy gonna organise a R18 Skating event simply for you lol. I have a bad enough reputation as it is. skating isn't so big these days so majority of the teenagers on here prob can't skate so watching them fall over will surely be entertaining

Hockey blades are diff from normal blades. they are stiff and uncomfortable and best bought new so havent been moulded to someone else's foot. decent normal blades can be got off trademe as loads of people buy them than never use them and eventually get rid of almost new gear. if you get normal blades you will need to take the brakes off for hockey

Probably best to learn with brakes I'm thinking... the hockey thing will be down the track - rather like my capability most likely

yeah if you can't actually blade and were planing on playing a proper game of hockey you'll be waiting a long time. hockey really is bloody hard. and i'm an expert at crashing into the walls and its not much fun. i'm a decent street blader and been doing it for years but I miss 70% of the instant turns in hockey cause just dont have the knack. plus hockey fitness is similar to rowing or a marathon runner - way way higher than your average footballers lol stealthkiwi2010-04-22 14:57:32
