How much should i save per week for Brazil 2014?

Now that's smart thinking. I could do a year's dairy farming in Brazil, it's turning into big business over there these days.

Before you know it, Brazil will be flooded with kiwi football fans going on working holidays.

Sounds like a good idea Buffon. It will take discipilne and sacrifice.Watch for non football loving women.
I made a saving plan to go to USA '94 and it worked. Had a great time. Went for city specific, San Francisco. To lazy to travel. Was much cheaper back then. From memory i saw six games for about $400 NZ.  Things have changed.
Good luck.

At this stage I'm looking at combining the WC and Confederations Cup with my OE. Planning on flying out to Brazil for the Confeds in June 2013, then do a working/holiday for 12 months (hopefully teach English to some rick kids) and finish with the World Cup.
That is genius, I finish school in 2012 (Hopefully with an exchange to Germany that includes the Olympics and Euros), if I have enough left over I could try this, if not just the World Cup.

You know we belong together...

I'm saving. Slowly. Will you still go if NZ don't make it? I'm not sure I would. As I am also trying to go to Euros in France 2016.

Yes. The World Cup means more to me than just NZ qualifying.

Likewise. But I am just not sure as it is quite big cost. I still think a World Cup in Brazil will be brilliant. And I am deadkeen to go.

Do you think it will be better if i pick one city too then (e.g. Rio or Sao Paolo). Thing is i'm quite keen to see some of the lesser known cities, especially the one by the Amazon that's hosting games (Manaus).

Three for me, and two for them.

That might depend if we qualify.
I would probably do it differently if i went to Brazil. Would like to travel a bit.Never been there. Also a football nation which is different to the U.S.
In 1992 i spent three months in the U.S. so wasn't that keen to travel around in1994.
Maybe travelling around in Brazil could be a problem. Don't know how good their internal air service is.

I'd say pick a region - and travel around that. Brazil is huge, travelling from Sao Paulo to Manaus for example is a bitch at the best of times, it'll be a nightmare during the World Cup.

Sounds like each goup will be based in a region within Brazil. So that should help too.

Damn I'm keen but saving $50 a week is going to be hard! I'm going to need a promotion. I like the working holiday OE plan though, that could be a goer.

I'd be much more likely to go if New Zealand qualified. I'm kicking myself I didn't take out a loan to go to South Africa. I almost did...

When you budget don't forget price of tickets to as many as you can get to.
May need to look at US$100 or more per game.
Some guys in our group in SA got tickets to a Denmark game at Loftus for $6 NZ. That won't happen in Brazil.

I'm not rich so that's not viable.

I'm thinking Russia 2018 - but then I've been to Russia a couple of times so I know its doable on 10k + game tickets.

That's a lot less than I thought - accom seemed extortionate when I looked but did it end up ok?  Brazil not as expensive as has been reported?

I did arrive a week into the tournament also, and left brazil before the semis.

Rio was ridiculously expensive, so could only stay there a few nights.

BH we were half an hour bus trip from centro, and a further hour to the stadium. But we did happen to stay in the same place as Iran and England.

Brasilia had a lot of accommodation (a whole district of it).

I'm only a couple days short of the end of my trip and am well under budget. Has been far cheaper than I thought. Some areas of Brazil have been far more expensive but our group has been pretty good at finding cheaper ways of getting by. Not needing to buy a final ticket is a big saver too #positives

A German guy told me some people were paying between 10 and 20k US for a final ticket. The cheapest ticket I could find for the semi final was 3k US which was just out of reach and would have ruled out going to the final had Holland made it. The reason those two games were so expensive was because of the demand created by the Argies - Rio/Copacabana was taken over by them. Cheers Vader - had the time of my life. Paying for it now though, the last ten days in Copacabana was non stop and now I've got the flu and stomach gastro issues. Bunked down in Santiago for a night on my way back and slept for 12 hours. No regrets though

Glad you had a great time. Would you have paid that sort of money had Holland got to the final?

No not 10k US. Maybe 5. If it was Germany vs Holland the tickets would have been much cheaper though.

I thought I was a real fan, but no way I would pay that sort of dough.
