Captivating stuff at the moment. Great opening partnership so far but the South African quicks will just keep coming at us

Completely unnecessary shot from McCullum. Classic NZ batting

Wow, we are trying to find a way to lose this. Got in the car just before tea, heard we were 240/4 and thought sweet, draw almost guaranteed. I'm an idiot. (Although in fairness I didn't realise Taylor was effectively out too.)

Is Taylor back at the ground yet? Can he hold a bat? Martin needs to survive 4 balls, then Gillespie needs 12 off Philander or losing becomes a distinct possibility. (probablility?)aitkenmike2012-03-26 16:14:13

Taylor's at the ground but his arm's in a sling. There was speculation that SA might choose to bat again in the commentary box, although I don't buy it BarryZuckerkorn2012-03-26 16:18:44

McMillian seems to be the one advocating that. I don't understand the logic. I don't want to call him an idiot in case i'm wrong, but why would you bat again, give a (theoretical) opportunity for NZ to chase the runs, and limit the time required to bowl the side us out?

Richardson just said Taylor will not bat in this innings - no sh*t

I think calling Macca an idiot would be justifiable. I think his reasoning is that it would give their bowlers a rest, but they don't look like they need one to me. Plus there's only half a session left then they can rest overnight

Cracking little spell of Test cricket there. Much greater chance of a draw now - will be interesting to see what SA do. Blast it?

I'd buy that if they had just bowled two days straight on a flat barren deck. They haven't even bowled a hundred overs. Completely over McMillian.

Will be interesting to see how the jaapies approach the next day.

Huge last wicket partnership there, basically the difference between a win and a loss right there. I'll happily take a draw

*sigh* I remember the days when Vettori used to bat at 9, and we actually had a lower order...

I think there was one game a few years back with Mills at 11, when every player in the side had at least one first class hundred.

That's terribly optimistic.  There's still PLENTY OF TIME for a nice little Black Cap batting collapse or two.

Ouch...

Yeah wait for it though...ruptured testicle. Can you imagine the pain? I would ask my batting partner to k.o me with his bat.

Fuck this stupid game

Serious question... wouldn't that affect his batting from now on? I know he's a bit of a legend batting wise, but surely that will be in the back of his mind. Actually now I think of it... didn't he bat on anyway?

Batting collapses I can handle (probably because I am used to them) but days like yesterday make me angrier than any other.

Every batsman got a start and looked reasonable, they then got out. Sure you might get the odd day where that happens but it has happened repeatedly for years. I genuinely think all of these guys are good enough to play test cricket so it must be mental.

This seems overly conservative from SA. I thought Smith might have tried to tempt us into going for the win but that's well out of reach now
