Really depends on his ability.

Marco for instance was 18 last season when he had his first game.

When ever you think bro. He'd probably have no idea whats going on at 2 years of age though, but the memory would still be there.Azevo2011-01-21 10:28:34

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

I wouldn't bother, mate. He'll get nothing out of it, and you won't be able to really enjoy yourself. Give it another couple of years imo.

Quite true.  Junior football usually starts around 6/7.  Kids start to learn tactics/positions around 9/10.

Well, punting long balls upfield is quite a complex concept.

I bring my, now, 9y/o daughter to the occasional game each season for the last 2 seasons. Quite frankly she only goes for the donuts or chips & the atmosphere rather than the actual game.

Never sit one row down from kids. They wave flags horizontally, therefore you get poked in the eye/head. Or when they shake their fizzy drink bottles then they open it, all over you    On each occasion, the father/guardian (if you're PC, caregiver ) didn't apologise. I'm of the generation where the parent is responsible for any children under their care, so the apology comes from the parent.Wongo2011-01-21 12:58:35

You're right Wongo, the Fever Zone can be a rather dangerous and messy place at times!

Junior News would die a bloody and violent death if he tried any of that.  It's this nurturing encouraging fatherly attitude that may have contributed to his recent absence from matches.

Immerse them in football. Start creating the next All White. Put a ball at his feet now.

How's your son's dribbling coming along? Ours stopped a long time ago, but I might take up footy again as I am at the age where I can dribble in my sleep.

Sorry to hear that. Can you get kid-sized stab-proof vests?

Get him a stripey with "FTT" on the back. He'll be eternally grateful to you.

my 16 month old boy has been to 6 home games, earliets was at 10 months, he loved the big TV.....currently he loves the snacks we take with us but also the noise the Zone backs, he laughs and claps when you guys go nuts.....his home record is 5 wins 1 draw....wasn't at the game yesterday, hence the loss - he needs to toughen up and deal with the cold better. (stern words have been spoken)

If he can do that he'll become a pro. Since 99% of pros seem to not be able to do this. Which continuously astounds me. It's not hard to teach yourself to do. Tegal2012-01-09 11:48:51

i totall yagree, I am totally astounded to watch the top players in the world look utterly useless when required to pass or worse still shoot on their weaker foot.....what happened in their early coaching????

A couple of things worth sharing:

1. Let the kids watch the game last night (school hols).  When Timmie scored Jnr Jnr went mental and ran around the house.  Highly amusing.

2. They have discovered the Wgtn Library audio books that you can download and listened to two books: "Once" and "Then" by Morris Gleitzman.  VERY good books for children and adults (about a Polish Jewish boy running from the Nazis) - not feel good but extremely well written/narrated.  Almost feel should be in the school curriculum.  Not sure why they chose those books but quite impressed that they did.

Did you end up taking yours Chef?  Seen a few bairns in slings/pouches at various games.

Yes I did take my boy. We sat up the top of the zone at the wsw game . brought our flag pissed a guy off by waving it around him too many times , he moved .

Watched about 15 mins of football before he saw grandad and hat to go say hi.

Went thru a few isles up and down the steps .

Played footy with another boy who brought his ball. ate some chips and then spent almost half the game total playing games on my  phone .

Met glen moss and a few other players who signed his poster was a highlight for him .Glen moss is his favourite.

he did enjoy watching the footy he saw mind you.

then maccas on the way home .

I'd say around 8 as long as they enjoy playing football. Can concentrate long enough, can pick up what the other fans are doing, can enjoy the spirit of it all
