Anyone watching it this year? I'm backing Astana to be the best team of the tour, the team they have this year is just phenominal. There is no way that they are coming away with nothing this year.

Thoughts and Opinions.

The Tour is some event isn't it.  I've been up to the Col du Tourmalet and the Alpe D'Huez. How human beings manage to cycle those two is near beyond me...

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Exciting cycling and what an excellent way to see bits of France and Spain that you wouldn't normally see unless you were there. I love watching it.

Agreed LG. Spent 4 hours this morning watching yesterdays stage. It was exciting, but I am still to hear the names of Julian Dean and Hayden Roulston said by the commentators. Hopefully they make some sort of impact, like, at least Julian Dean last year was involved in a few exciting sprints that put me on the edge of my seat. Nothing like that this year so far.

I love watching the tour for the spectacle of it but do get a little confused sometimes. Can someone explain the whole team thing to me, when Cycling seems to be such an individual sport?

Sherwen mentioned the other day that the French were continually drug testing Armstrong. 3 times in 48hours at one point. Bloody French

Armstrong is apparently the most drug tested cyclist in the history of the sport, he has never tested positive - so he has to be considered one of the best if not the best cyclist ever!

Queenslander 3x a year.

His lung capacity and heart etc etc are apparently almost perfectly built for cycling. On top of that, if you are looking for a good read, read his book "It's Not About The Bike"

I stayed up to watch some of the race last night and ended up going to bed at the end of it. The racing itself was interesting enough and the scenery was quite stunning. If I win lotto, I want to get a Camper van and follow the exact road route at they did for this years race.

"Footnote, I dont have any rich uncles so I have to depend on Lotto! LOL

I'd hate to be a cyclist. No hamstrings and no upper body. May as well be a woman.
I like tautologies because I like them.

meh, dude has no traps and probably no hamstrings.

Anyway is that Armstrong after he quit cycling to focus on other things like running etc?

This dude is more indicative anyway.

So what are peoples picks to win the tour?

Yellow Jersey: Contador/Armstrong

Green Jersey: Cavendish (though Hushovd may make a comeback, but Cavendish's form is very good atm

King of the mountains: Egoi Martinez

White Jersey: Toni Martin or Andy Schleck

You win, I'm not that interested in discussing men's bodies, but you carry on if you want to.

I was just watching before and the commentators were talking about how no-one was going to chase the breakaway group as all the sprinters teams are featured in the breakaway (Roulston was there) but if the sprinter himself isn't going to get the points whats the advantage of having someone from his team being in the break?

Watching Le Tour atm. Hayden Roulston doing some very exciting cycling catching the original rider who tried to make a break!
