Tino Rangatirotanga has picked up a lot of negative associations,
mainly related to gangs, which is a shame, because it's a strong
flag.
The silver fern is good, but it's more a symbolf our sport than our
country.
However if you like the fern, how about one that doesn't look like

Regardless, this won't come about until NZ is a republic. Currently
we are still a dominion, like it or not. There are steps towards
republicanism though - look at the high and supreme courts removing
the link to the Privy council, and the removal of knighthoods,
OBE's etc. Republicanism may sneak up on us by stealth. The one
thing to consider is what we gain or lose by going down that
road.
In terms of a flag it's about trying to establish some kind of
national identity that hasn't been defined by someone else.
