Just like Astle a few years ago. If he gets to the same kind of score, we win

Brilliant to watch - he was just smashing it! Panesar - who'd taken 6 wickets - made to look like a club bowler.  Magnificent.

Don't want to get carried away, but this lad has massive potential.  Five wicket bag and 70-odd not out on debut.  Test cricket's easy.

But he didn't

I guess it's a little easier to have a long standing partnership when It's with Chris Cairns and not Chris Martin.

Now imagine if we had a top order that could bat....

We might have actually won!

theres a player who can hold his head up and be proud of what he's done, 5 wickets in the first innings and an awesome 70+ when batting. Senior pros take note.

Also don't forget that the 50 was the 6th quickest. Ever. On debut.

Nice trainspotting RKR!!!
seriously though, why on earth can our supposed batsmen not come in and play with confidence, batting is a simple thing, get you head, etes, body in line and hit the ball, Timmy can do it, why cant the rest!

Cause Sinclair is a talentless git, and Bell ain't much better. That's why.

Three for me, and two for them.

Now taking nothing away from the kid (after all...hit the ball for 6 anyway you can)...

But when did timmy get anything in line? I thought he just swung and connected!

Talentless players don't score Double Centuries on debut.

Sinclair has talent, he just thinks about the game too much like much of our top order does, they over complicate it.

if not thinking is the solution then i should be fantastic as an opener.

and lets not forget chris martin now has a batting average of 2.55. big ups to him

haha I think the comment was overthinking the batting process, like i mentioned earlier...its a simple game - get in line hit the ball, too much though = disaster!

As for Tim hitting sixes, i don't car how he was bowled to, he played each ball on iots merits, and i don't think Monty wanted to give the kid 9 sixes!

tbh did nz do that badly 2nd innings chase what they score 431 all out?? memory tells me record run chase is 418 so the bet that by 13 runs?? thats a pretty decent effrot. 1st innings batting and 2nd innings bowling really a let down.

418 is the record run chase for a win. Not overall. So good effort but not amazing buy any stretch.

Three for me, and two for them.

the bigger question to come out of today for me and the bigger question to come out of the series is why do new zealand batsmen have an inability to turn 50's into 100's.
Fleming
Taylor, 50s in 3 of the last 4 innings
Bell
McCullum
Vettori gets stranded a bit gut he has a pretty bad conversion rate
How in Hamilton

It doesnt seem to me and ill admit i havent studied closely NZ first class cricket this year but no one consistently gets 100s in 1st class cricket. Flynn seems to have scored a lot of runs this year but is hot and cold. Guptil had a good one day season but i dont think hes done much in 4 day cricket. the otago guys seem to do alright but then again i havent seen much this year

well that was entirely off topic but we could turn this into a squad for england discussion thread

How many people can you pick in the squad?

Three for me, and two for them.

NZ Cricketers think about the game to much while there in the middle especially after they reach 50 and so over complicate it. The nets are were batsman should be thinking about how there playing, in the middle it should be sub-concious and second nature. The only thing they should be thinking about is weather to play or leave the ball, and if there going to play the ball, weather it's defensive or attacking.
