Manuka Honey- are we fighting this?

It sort of happened slowly.

Before the ruling only a few small markets had the Aussie stuff. After the ruling Aeon places had it, but still had an NZ blend as their home brand.

And finally- Aussie Manuka honey is their home brand. Not sure if the other blend continues or is phased out. It’s cheaper.

Is anyone fighting for this? Or have we packed up and gone home on our IP on Manuka honey?

They legal battle is still ongoing I believe?
All comes down to the science being able to prove that the tree is NZ is different enough than the tree in Aussie to be treated as unique. They are the same tree essentially, but apparently the millennia of separation between Aotearoa and Australia has meant they could be classified as different.
If they are considered genetically the same then the Aussies can call honey made from the tree 'Manuka Honey', if not it is then 'Tea tree Honey'

I know there was a decision in Britain that opened it up for the products and claims you see above, maybe a year or 18 months ago?

I’d heard there was research that concluded what you said, but hadn’t affected that judgement as of yet.
