NEW SOUTH WALES NEW SOUTH WALES NEW SOUTH WALES!

Atmosphere at Four Kings was awesome tonight - loved the booth full of my fellow New South Welshmen, right next to the booth full off *shudder* Queenslanders. Great stuff, most fun I've had watching league in a long time.

New South Wales all the way baby!

Awesome game, huge intensity. QL were under the pump from the word go and apart from a few periods, were never really in the game. Tho I think QL did NSW a few favours in:

- Not picking magician Scotty Prince
- Playing Harmichael c**t out of position
- Constantly throwing away possession early in the tackle count.

looking forward to game 2 up at Suncrop, should be an awesome atmosphere.

Queensland seemed to have trouble stoping centre Mark Gasnier  last night.  Maybe Steve
Matai could give them some advice.  they face off on friday when Manly takes on the Dragons at Brookvale Oval.

you guys needed a play maker in the halves, karmicheal hunt defended awesomely  but  had no creativity going forward, thurston took an age to get into the game as well.

you guys were unlucky not to score after that awesome run from slater that ended up right on our line and you guys coughing up posession

for us i thought wallace had a blinder on debut  and so to quin and  bird had great games as well

like phil gould said "do we really have to wait three weeks for the next game?"

well yeah we do, but i wish we didn't

From foxsports.com.au

AFTER 82 games, more than 6,500 brutal minutes of battle and 60,000-odd bruising tackles, just 17 points separate New South Wales and Queensland on the State of Origin points scoreboard.

But NSW's 18-10 upset took their Origin points tally to 1,302 with Queensland's total just 17 points behind at 1,285.

The hurdle facing Queensland is that if they force a series decider, it will be at ANZ Stadium - one place where the Origin figures aren't so close.

Their record at the Olympic venue is one win and a draw from 13 games since 1999.

The telling stat is that NSW have scored 305 points (23.4 points per game) at ANZ Stadium compared to 154 points (11.8 points per game) by Queensland.

FORMER Queensland State of Origin five-eighth Ben Ikin says the Maroons would not have won the opening game even with Wally Lewis in the No.6 jumper.

The youngest player to pull on an Origin jumper when he played the first of 17 games in 1995 under Paul Vautin, Ikin said Queensland had played too one-out and deserted coach Mal Meninga's game plan.

"It doesn't matter if Scott Prince plays last night, the cold hard facts are Queensland played boring and predictable football through the middle," he said.

"We didn't play direct enough and we were too one-out.

"It didn't matter who was in the halves, they were never going to have the time or space they needed off the back of some good go forward.

"Every time we did go wide it was off the back of limited go forward, they just shut us down because they were all set.

"The blame for that rests on the shoulders of Smithy (captain Cameron Smith) and his forward pack.

Second State of O tonight, must win for queensland or nsw take the series for the first time since 2005

Random fact- in the 1st origin, an an incentive, the winning players shared 10% of the gate; the losing players received a match fee only

NEW South Wales have called upon Sydney fans to adopt the same attitude as the 'rednecks' across the border by throwing away the beach balls and cheering the Blues all the way to victory next week at ANZ Stadium.

Chairman of selectors Bob McCarthy says the Blues will need a capacity crowd baying for Maroons blood next week if they are to upset Queensland and claim NSW's first Origin series title since 2005.

TAB odds for State of Origin 3:
NSW b. Canetoads, $2.30
Canetoads b. NSW $1.57

COYB!

In other news: Robb's Plan to Fix Origin:

Have Game 1 always played at a neutral venue. I suggest Melbourne  (Tard Stadium), Perth (Subiaco) or Auckland (Eden Park). This:
a) raises the profile of State of Origin - which face it, is the highest level of Rugby League considering how much of a joke the international game is.
b) Brings in more income - Sydneysiders don't have to pick between two games to go to, and fans outside the region don't have to travel ie me, and
c) Makes the series officially neutral in terms of fan support (although in most cases it will support to Canetoads).

Then, Game 2 is hosted by the loser of Game 1. This places an imperative on that fans team to show up and support a comeback. Also, it makes a comeback statistically more likely to happen - which is good for the series IMHO. I love it when Queensland wins one of the first two games and NSW wins the other two.

Then, Game 3 is hosted by whoever didn't host Game 2. This can make it one of two options.
a) A victory match. Say, if NSW won both first two games, locals will go to watch the Blues try for a clean sweep
or
b) A massive sudden death match to decide who comes out top after a 1-1 series draw. Which should draw locals.

QUEENSLAND legend Mal Meninga is set to guide the Maroons' "Generation Next" into an exciting new era regardless of the result of Wednesday's State of Origin decider in Sydney.

Queensland Rugby League managing director Ross Livermore revealed on Friday night that his board had already agreed to offer Meninga the job again in 2009 and moves were under way for a further extension.

Livermore said the board was delighted with the job Meninga had done, with the Maroons aiming for a third straight series win over the Blues.

A FRUSTRATED Craig Bellamy is ready to quit as New South Wales coach after the State of Origin decider.

It has been revealed Bellamy has told friends he plans to stand down despite having been in charge for just one Origin series.

When asked on Tuesday  whether he would continue as Blues coach beyond tthe much-anticipated finale, Bellamy said: "No comment."

But the man many consider to be the best coach in the game has told friends he is frustrated at some areas of officialdom and also dislikes coaching against his Storm-based Queensland players.
