I agree with clarke, whats the point in St Pats Stream. They don't challenge for the shield, they don't chant pretty much a useless team/school. Atleast Rongotai chant and are good for the atmosphere.

Well I diss-agree. We do chant but some of the younglings dont embrace the competition. We do compete hence we beat rongatai in placings.Just wait till Coll traditional mate.

Duz care about McEvedy anymore..

It should up to the seniors to get them chanting then.

Like all the other schools did..

Anyways... Ahem.

WC chanting was quiet until we started winning, hate to say it but st pats probably had the loudest chanting, but schools seated in the stand tend to be louder

Can someone explain to me why you guys all get so worked up about an athletics comp? My cousin who was at stream always used to go on about it and I used to rubbish him, told him to win a national first 15 comp and then come back to me but he said this was better. So basically why do you all care so much?...
Not wanting to have a go but just wondering

School Pride, nothing like it in NZ is another. In football it would be like your club playing 3 other rival clubs that you are very competitive with, (Like the big 4 in the EPL) thats the only way I can describe it.

That's not really true WPF.  There's nothing like it at Coll.  It's the one big thing of the year.  The two St Pats have the Old Boys Cup which is pretty fierce.  Rongotai probably have something too.  Shoplifting Olympics maybe.  Don't know.

Bopman, it's the closest thing you get to a local football derby when you're a kid I guess.  Heaps of fun.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Well I was saying it from a Coll perspective. It looks like our final winning margin got narrowed down to 6.wellyphoenixfan2009-03-04 16:02:22

For 1,000s of kids it's their first taste of active, terrace support. It was mine.

Only time I ever had any school spirit.

Tomorrow, hopefully going to be huge. Despite Ashbys best efforts.

In early news, a few Karori lads are banned after the ruckus caused on Friday arvo.

And year 9s and 10 aren't going cause they can't fit in the stands.

haha this Mcevedy blows so far and I don't go to coll anymore. I reckon all the year 9s and 10s should go and the guys who got "banned" also should. Everyone should get to the station tomorrow I expect to hear about the station haka happening. Also David Ashby what a hair cut.

This year Ashby is clamping down hard and all. Or so he says. The Karori lads did the haka in Karori mall and he got a complaint so a whole bus load I think got banned. Year 9 and 10 were going to stand on the bank but poor weather means they didn't want them getting wet. Also no Mcevedy video this year, or smashing of the Stream, Town and Rongotai fellas in assembly. It'll be ruckus as tomorrow though!!

He use to be my PE teacher at Rongotai, that's if it's the same person you're talking about.

Given it's dated back to the days just after WWI when St Pats Town was on Buckle Street. It also showcases many long years of rivalry between St Pats Town and Wellington College.

"told him to win a national first 15 comp" I think everyone here can agree Rugby doesn't have the charisma and spirit from the people in the stands as Football...well McEvedy has similar spirit as a Football match. For example; you want to watch Rongotai College out-perform Wellington College with their haka (200 students to 1300 students (in my day)) when Rongotai had about 600 students?? we guessed most of them were wagging haha.

Saw a bit of atmosphere today as I was around town this morning, looked awesome.

As for your point about 1st 15 Rugby, that is about the only place you see real passion from crowds etc.

Top quality high school sport is absolute quality I reckon, nothing pretentious about it just people going out to win for the pride of their school
