We lost because of no build up. Simple as that. And seeing as Year 9s/10s couldn't go, the tradition is set to end.

Bye McEvedy.

Coll's teachers f**ked Mcevedy for Coll Students. I'm happy I've left coll because they seem to have made it into a very strict place this year thanks to us

I'm sure we won it while I was there (96-99). Could be wrong though - may have been Old Boys cup at Newtown that I am remembering.

It's definitely better winning it back than retaining it.CboZ2010-03-03 19:44:47

The news paper says "We took on a school twice our size and won"

Fairly unfair thing to say! They can pick their students and have plenty more money.

Oh well, we deserved to lose it this year after our effort from Ashby / Moses.Michael2010-03-03 19:58:37

Law prevents public schools from picking students, and they must follow strict rules and ballots done under police supervision.

A school bus went past me today. and there were 4 or 5 Wellington Coll McEvedy shirts hanging out the window.
Did the not get the message?

For McEvedy?
Im pretty sure that the Police don't give a rats ass about how they choose students. I think you mean - Justice of the peace.

Or was that a joke?

St Pats athletics captain (otherwise known as the difference on tuesday) was enrolled to join wellington college in the 6th from when he moved to wellington. However, after competing at some athletics event the week before he started, he was 'enticed' to Pats town. hmmm

So if the phoenix lose this weekend you won't ever display their colours again?

I think you'll find the Wellington Phoenix and Wellington College colours are quite different.
It's the Yellow you see, it's a bit different.

The Phoenix Yellow is proud, striking and an inspiring shade.
Where as the Wellington College yellow seems to have a sort of yellow belly, cowardly Judas shade to it...

was that an attempt at sarcasm or just plain ignorance?

It took ages for someone to bite... I was expecting retaliation hours ago.

I understand the sarcasm dig but how could that comment be miscontrued as ignorant?

You're either an ex or current Coll boy or you're an Australian cricketer...
Both can't handle any stick, both sore losers who don't know how to have a laugh.

Its called the education act. Col can't pick who does and doesn't get into the school. While the private schools can. (See here)

Sore Losers? If you had seen the Haka's last Tuesday, how close the athletes got, followed up by pure hand shakes, you'd understand good sportsmanship.

Go back to HVHS mate

Yep, handshakes, losing sides applauded St Pats, definitely no sour, sore losing from Coll or any other scgools.

yeah, you feel the pain losing but you know that next year your school will be back to take it back like what happened in 08 then 2009 we won it back, I'm sure Welly Coll will win next year.

Or a sad dooley trying to knock what is clearly a far greater school- with regards to any aspect. One shield victory ain't gonna change that.

Whoops. I thought you meant for sports teams.
Still. Not Police. Trust me on that.

Although, (Ignoring the background story) A guy was bought to a place I was staying at by the Coll Principal one night. He was asked by the school to spend another year at Coll to play Rugby. Don't remember his name. But he had a tongue stud. (Don't look too deep into that)Stefan2010-03-04 22:40:16

Haha, yeah our "Sixth" former Rugby players are a bit suspicious. How ever most of them do need to stay in school for academic purposes (no surprises there) All other sports are intelligent enough to rule against this.

As for the police... the ballot has to be open to public and they've always said "under supervision of a police officer"Michael2010-03-04 23:03:43

HVHS? Mate that is an intense personal insult haha.

No I'm seriously only pointing a bit of stick, only having a laugh.
As an ex Pat's boy you have to put the boot in a little bit to Coll boys don't you, just as I have seen it done in reverse many a time.

I here-by apologise to all and any Wellington College boys whomn I have offended with my comments (No sarcasm or smirk I assure you). I know what it's like to lose McEvedy (Only all too well as a former St Pat's town boy) apologise for my comments being a bit too OTT.

Can't we all just get along?
