And for the record, the Joey Cape/Tony Sly was actually one of the best I had been too. They played for around four hours, an hour of which was requests. It was like a massive singalong with some of your mates. Not the sort of gig I'm used to, but one I enjoyed. Perhaps a sign I'm getting old!
Going to the Wgtn gig on Friday night.
Pretty good, played songs from as far back as Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues, not sure if there was anything older than that. Didn't open with Too close to see or close with Matchbook which is the first I have seen them not do that but both were in the setlist, closed with Ozzy Osbourne cover, Bark at the moon. Not as good as previous shows they have done here but still good. Amazing musicians.
Those guysn are incredible at their instruments - blows me away every time. At the intro to a song I'm inspired to play my guitar more often - by the time the solo comes around I want to quit!

From punkas:
[quote]Really gutted to have to say this but the sh*t has hit fan with SNFU. Some "legal issues" have escalated in the last week with one of their members, meaning his Visa was canceled and he is not allowed to leave Canada at the moment.
Strike Anywhere are still confirmned for this, but SNFU are def off the bill. Any SNFU fans wanting their money back should contact the ticket seller for a refund.
Sorry for the let down people - i'm a SNFU fan and was really looking forward to this. We've tried everything we can think of to get this to happen but it's totally out of our hands now as the person concerned has had his visa cancelled.
Once again, sorry.

Not really. More rockier sound, less bouncy, with big vocals.

Fair assessment. Didn't do a great deal for me, based on the myspace trax anyway.
I'm definitely going to the Strike Anywhere Wellington gig, as I'll be down there for the Boca game. I doubt any of the guys I'm going down with will want to go. Anyone here definitely going that I can meet up with before hand?
I'm still bitter that El Grapadura told me that Pungent Stench played Wellington after they had been! (Not punk, but some grindcore acts shouldn't be missed, grrrr....)

Sorry but they sound like a boy band or like Green Day which is worse than a boy band.

Half an hour is a f*ckin disgrace. Punk my arse.

Mate, if they were anything like Green Day it would have 30 minutes too long.
Yeah, it was a bit gutting. I've always thought bands should play an hour minimum. I remember when Bad Religion came a few years back they played for ages.

Not Ok are awesome guys, back from Oz.
These guys are also touring the country, check their myspace pages for shows in your area.

Anyone on here know if the Bouncing Souls gig is a similar night to a Phoenix game? Keen on coming up for it if they're the same weekend.

They play Dec 2 in Wgtn and Dec 3 in Akl. Unfortunately doesn't sync with a Phoenix game, the 'Nix are down in Chch on the 5th.

I was thinking of going to the ChCh game, if I've got the money. Going to have to choose between the two I think.
Alright. Who is joining me for this one? Sure there's some metal, but Nofx, Dropkicks and Frenzal Rhomb guarantee my attendance.
Amid a sea of rumour and innuendo, were here to set you straight and make all your heavy music prayers come true... NO SLEEP TIL, is a national touring festival that will deliver a mix of the best international and local acts from the legendary to the up and comers.
Make sure youre sitting down before you read further
Leading the charge for this historic event is seminal thrash-metal act MEGADETH, who will be performing their now-classic release RUST IN PEACE in its entirety! Those lucky enough to witness Mustaine and co in action when last here in 2009 will attest that MEGADETH are in their career best form, making this a once in a lifetime experience you dont want to miss!
As musically impressive as they are entertaining, punk rock stalwarts NOFX are one of the few within their genre that have been able to remain creatively relevant throughout their career. Armed with a back catalogue that boasts as many hits as a backyard-boxing match, NOFX are, as always, guaranteed to deliver each and every night.
Fiercely loyal to their hometown of Boston, MA, everyones favourite working-class heroes DROPKICK MURPHYS are now something of a household name in New Zealand with their socially-aware punk rock anthems packing out the shows theyve played down under in the past!
Fresh off the US and UK festival circuit, metalcore heroes, PARKWAY DRIVE - one of Australias dominant musical exports will be making a welcome appearance. Since releasing their debut full-length 'Goddamnit' in 1998, much loved Illinois punk rockers ALKALINE TRIO have been at the forefront of the modern day punk movement, with the group's hard-rocking tunes providing the perfect musical backdrop for iconic frontman Matt Skiba's often harrowing lyrics. A band not to be missed!
For more than two decades US metal troupe GWAR have been shocking audiences all over the world, so it's about time New Zealand was able to witness the bloody carnage first hand.
In addition to this already monumental package, Swedens darkest sons KATATONIA and, Aussie punks FRENZAL RHOMB will also be hitting the stages, and we are pleased to announce the inclusion of the classic-metal loving 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, deathcore sensations SUICIDE SILENCE, Pennsylvanian quintet AUGUST BURNS RED and rapidly-rising US troupe WE CAME AS ROMANS also on board.
And adding to this excellent line up - all flying the New Zealand flag with pride - are the hardcore heroes ANTAGONIST AD fresh from their European tour and ready to deliver their brutal no-holds-barred hardcore to NZs masses. Wellington based melodic punk rockers THE OUTSIDERS. Auckland based hardcore hard-outs sh*tRIPPER led by an intense and layered duel vocal attack AND, NZs most exciting new act LEECHES, formed from the ashes of Bleeders and Goodnight Nurse and featuring members of Antagonist A.D and Brick Vs Face.
So there you have it! We promised and we have delivered.
