Interestingly, I didn't discover most US punk until quite a bit later, maybe 1983-84. There was almost a snob factor here; aside from The Ramones, Dead Kennedys first album and, to some, Devo, it was UK punk only, umbilical chord syndrome I guess.
Then I bought a compilation called Let Them Eat Jellybeans, which was fantastic and opened my ears to the likes of Geza X, Flipper and, of course, the must haves of Black Flag and Bad Brains. And from this came my devotion to the phenomenal Husker Du.
Later, I got into Rancid (up to and including Life Won't Wait), Offspring (up to and not including Americana) and the Dropkick Murphys. The Hellcat label was quite brilliant for a while, and the ska stuff released on there was fantastic (Slackers, Gadgits, Hepcat etc).
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.
