Yup, I'm 40+ & it brought back memories as a kid. But I do have to laugh at it nowYou can hear in the back ground, as Big Mullumba was prancing round the ring, a little old lady shouting "Get back into your corner!"
Having just watched it, this has got to be the worst wrestling I've ever seen Why is the frankly camp "Big" Mullumba wearing a skirt for starters?
Proper wrestling, nothing camp here:

Just noticed that Prime has 'WWII in Colour " on tonight @7.30 pm.
I recorded & have watched WW2 In Colour. As I was watching I thought to myself, hold on, I recognise a lot of the footage as being in black & white (I have quite a few WW2 doco's in my DVD collection). I could tell that the original black & white footage had undergone a colourisation process to render it in colour. Sure enough, the end credits stated that the original footage were indeed black & white & went through the above process. Nevertheless, an interesting 1st episode of the series which continues next Fri same time.
Wrestlers of note were Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks

The big derby of British wrestling!
Yeah, in the UK we had Wrestling on a Saturday afternoon before World of Sports with Dickie Davis.

I got this link from the latest Net Guide. Back when wrestling was more action than all talk. Some big names from the past in this one too. Obviously guys over 40 will remember this. A look at New Zealand's past.

I'd forgotton the theme music and Barry Holland.
Woomba woomba big Mullumba!
When at the Wellington town hall you couldnt get a seat in the front row as they were all occupied by little old grannies waving their brollies at the bad guys!
Wrestling was great in the UK too.

Loved that show. Only problem was going to school on the Monday and trying to avoid the colossal Samoan kid in the playground who idolised King Curtis and would grab kids, break them over his knee then belly flop onto them with a horrible roar.
Or they were doing arm bars on ya and just about breaking your arm!
Wasn't King Curtis a lecturer at Massey University ??
Mark Lewin had his side kick Rick Martell progress on to the early (by nz time standards) WWF. And I noticed in one of Steve Rickards mentions, he named Brett Hart as coming up in a forth coming match.
Sifi Afi Toagaga teamed up with Samoan Joe whom always seemed to knock himself how when head butting the opposition.
Ox Baker wrestled here for a while too. Hewas was in an early Jackie Chan movie called "The Big Brawl" and then in "Escape from New York".

Remember Samoan Joe doing the slap dance when he got really angry/fired up? The real evil bad guys were Abdullah The Butcher & Tojo, they were quite a tag team.
Just Googled the 2 above. Abdullah is really Lawrence Robert "Larry" Shreeve (born Jan 1941). Tojo Yamamoto is Harold Watanabe (1927 - 1992) of Hawaii.

Isn't Big Daddy's real name Shirley Crabtree or something like that?
Edit - Just realised when posting that I could have googled this, but hey.
Edit again - this is a bit freaky. Can someone with brains delete my multiple posts?

Anyone seen the previous episodes? Any good?
I can't specifically remember that particular episode but at least 5-6 years ago TVNZ showed a series of docos of war footage in colour. I do remember there was The ANZACs in Colour, Britain at War in Colour & another one I can't remember the title of, could've been America at War in Colour. Colour film was scarse back then, as you can appreciate, so tonights doco probably won't have wall to wall combat footage. Be interesting though.

Sadly for Haystacks he had just managed tp sign a deal with WWF/WWE and then found out he had cancer. Never did get that big break.

War in the Pacific tonight.
Banzai! Aiyee!
I've seen the original black & white footage that WW2 in Colour has colourised, I've found it hard to follow in colour. Just doesn't look right in colour.
Harry and Paul.
Damn - missed it (FIFA 10 and dishes).
Enjoying Sunday nights ATM:
Dr Who
Monty Python Almost the Truth
QI
Then switch to TV1 and see The Pacifc (still rather so-so)
Freaks and Geeks needs to be repeated.

Then 7 days
Harry and Paul coming up (if I don't crash beforehand)
I'm Alan Partridge is quite good too. Has its moments sure but overall pretty decent.
Yep - he's good.
(Don't tell me he's a Gooner too!)
Haha wouldn't know mate. Harry and Paul time now :D
I miss The Armstrong & Miller Show with the WW2 British airmen skits.
Here you go
Must have been in a good mood last night because the Father Ted and Harry & Paul episodes had me in stitches, evn 'tho I'd seen them years ago.Junior822010-06-05 21:22:04

Still think "Generation Kill" is quality. So much so that I've already bought the DVD of the series, even before it's finished being shown. Didn't have to pay a cent for it, got it with my ASB VISA True Rewards points

Am enjoying that too.
Must say am finding WWII in colour also good -learning a few things too (Merrills Marauders were based on Wingate's Chindits)
Last Friday Jnr Jnr saw his first Father Ted episode (kicking Father Brennan up the @@@rse) - which he found highly amusing.

Hitman on TV3 or Richard Hammond's Invisible Worlds (TV1)?
