Just finished True Detective season 2.

Agree with Groff's point re characters, but maybe there were just too many main characters. If you took it back to just Rachel McAdam's character (swoon) and probably Colin Farrell's character I think it'd might've been better. They seemed to have decent back stories which could've been explored more throughout, but were sort of glossed over (especially McAdams' Bezzerides, could've been some cool story arc's there).

I guess the type of crime they were investigating didn't lend itself well to build that awesome spooky tone of the first, but then it didn't really have it's own tone. Doing to many things and skimming the surface so many things.

Just finished Fargo. Haven't seen the movie but enjoyed the series. Recommended.

Movie very good and the series was excellent.

Have seen the promos for the new series, decent cast but concerned it's getting a bit 'gimmicky' with the obvious dry humour being taken too far. We will see...

Just finished Season 2 of Fargo. Thought episode 8 was hilarious. Pretty decent watch all through.

So watching this documentary called "60 Days In". Well worth a download. It's about people that volunteer to go into prison and only a couple of prison staff know they aren't real prisoners. The rest think they are first time offenders.

I watched the first episode on demand last night. I've read the book (big Le Carre fan) so no need to worry about spoilers. Seems well made, well cast, and true to the spirit of the book even if the setting has been updated.

It has driven home how shark on demand tv is in NZ though. Stuttering crap in Chrome and even (shudder) IE. Won't play in Firefox at all. And I've got super fast cable so not my internet connection at fault. When the ads come up they kind of make the whole thing shark out too, putting audio out of sync and things like that. TVNZ's system is just as bad.

Quasi-legal streaming sites in post-Soviet wastelands can get streaming video right but apparently it's beyond our tv companies.

Danger 5 – Season 1 borderline genius.

Danger 5 – Season 2 completely different, absolutely bonkers.

Would recommend.

Silicon Valley - slow burner, but it will get you. 3 short seasons. Some ridiculous characters. Very funny.

The People vs OJ Simpson. Saw it got great reviews but was a little skeptical how good a series about a court case could be when we already knew the outcome. But it really was exceptional viewing and can't recommend it highly enough. Fascinating learning all the details.

The original version of Roots was pretty damn good. I hope the forthcoming version isnt a pc version of Arthur Haley's book.

Westside.

1981, West Auckland crime scene, Springbok tour, etc.

Prequel to Outrageous Fortune.

Really good - am hanging on every episode.

There's not many NZ shows that stand up to overseas stuff, but this is definitely one.

TV3, Sundays 8.30

Things I have been watching lately....

Crazy Ex Girlfriend - very funny show with songs in it, so it has a hint of the Flight of the Conchords about it

Roadies - watched the first 3 episodes on Amazon and after a slow start it is growing on me. Luke Wilson plays the main character in a show about the roadies of a fictional band

Ballers - season 2 starts next week but really enjoyed season 1. The "Dwayne Johnson" Rock plays an ex NFL footballer turned financial adviser to current players

Orange is the New Black - season 4 (I think) now. Thought the last season was awful but this one is better again. Less boobies but back to being funny again although I am slightly confused how people who were sentenced to 18 months in prison can still be there 4 years later.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

I've been rewatching it at the moment.  Up to season 3 now too.  It still holds up a decade later.

Anyone watching The Night Of? It's pretty good, only two episodes in and I'm already hooked.

I've heard a lot about Stranger Things. Just watched the trailer for it and will start watching it tonight.

Would like to see Preacher, looks interesting to me.

Has The Expanse been mentioned in here? Really enjoyed that, great story/mystery to it.

And while in space, I kind of liked Killjoys too, but mostly as some non-thinking fun. Bit sharkty, but fun.

personally think that 'The Wire' was the best show on television. 'Preacher' is an interesting show, really weird stuff in it, that said i do like it. A lot of british actors. I personally like cassidy the irish vampire

I've been watching Sleepy Hollow, although, to be fair, mainly because of Nicole Beharie. Not sure if I'll keep watching now that they've killed her character off.

If you haven't tried it, watch Upstart Crow.  David Mitchell plays Shakespeare in a very blackadder like show (same writer).

The character fits so well with his game show persona.
