I note that Alan Richards  Auckland sports comentator died the other day. good commentator in the 70/80's went on all the overseas cricket tours and was suceeded by Bryan Waddle.

I think he was chairman of the North Shore football club for a time when they were in the old National league.

Was the commentator from the MCG for the infamous underarm.

RIP Alan Richards one of NZ's finest sports broadcasters/ commentators.

Ian Wells, long time leader/administrator of soccer and cricket, one of the partners who had the vision to give us A league in Wellington which eventualy became the Phoenix. [Terry provided the money and the rest is history]

Long time supporter/administrator of Mirimar Rangers.

I think at one stage he was part of the management team at the old Evening Post.

RIP Ian Wells.

I hope people realise just how instrumental Ian Wells and John Dow were in the creation of the Phoenix. After the collapse of The Knights they did all the work on the bid and kept the idea of a Wellington franchise going for months (with virtually no interest or support from NZF) until Terry finally had his famous haircut. Without Ian's efforts it's very likely there would have been no Phoenix.

Hopefully the club will mark his passing in some way at the game on Sunday.

13 Jan 14:26

+2, without his vision there'd be no Phoenix. Terry might have had the money but Ian had the idea of how to make it happen. Thank you sir for doing so and RIP.

oved the Banner at last Sunday's game. Although a minutes silence was appropriate to recognise his passing, I'd have thought that a minute of applause as well to acknowledge his achievements might have been a good idea.
