At the time he was the youngest player to appear  in a FA Cup at 17 years old.

Not in the 80's he wasn't Leggy. Some don't know he was a bloody useful player too.

As a manager he brought together a fantastic side in the mid 80's.

Sorry, did not mean he was the youngest player in an FA final in the 80's. Was the youngest player at the time (1965) to play in a final.

Kendall played in the 1964 final v the Hammers at 17 yrs old. Was the record until Paul Allen in 1980 I think. Kendall was a great Everton manager, but what's forgotten is that he's probably the best player(post-war) never to get capped by England. Part of the great Ball, Kendall, Harvey midfield(" the Holy Trinity") that won the Toffees the title in 1969-70. What a midfield! Howard was called into England squads on numerous occasions, but never quite got on the field. You'll never be forgotten Howard! RIP

The A League if they think a 3rd Sydney team is going to make it a going concern. They could end up RIP if they stay with only 10 teams. This will not grow the product. yet i appreciate the need for sustainability of course.

A bit late to this news but I was genuinely shocked and saddened to find out that Dickie Hammond, one of the guitarists in my favourite ever band Leatherface, passed away last week.

He was completely unknown to many, even in punk circles, but what an unbelievably good guitarist in an unbelievably good band. Hammond and bandmate Frankie Stubbs were straight up just the best twin-guitar attack in British punk rock ever.

Really great guy, had his issues but the people I know who knew him thought he was a top bloke.

He was a boofhead. Along with about 5 neighbours on Hampstead Lane, he managed to stop the Kenwood Summer Concerts for a whole summer - because they didn't like people parking their cars on Sunday evenings outside their houses.

Big send-off in today's DomPost by Zinzan Brooke. Compares him to Rudolf Nureyev!!!! Also loved when he first saw him - as a kid playing for Wesley Coll - I thought "Goodness gracious me!" LOL. Yeah right.

David Canary, he was in a soap for 27 years but I remember him in Bonanza for a few seasons playing the role of "Candy".

Big, Independence Day......

John Gadsby, 62, cancer. Starred in: A Week Of It, McPhail & Gadsby, Letter To Blanchey. 

He, David McPhail, Peter Rowley, Annie Whittle were bloody good in the 80's. I liked his "Jim Knox" impersonation.

Will be sorely missed.

I met him in real life when I was at varsity and had a job at Hagley Golf Course in the 1980's, checking to see if punters had paid their green fees.

I would cycle round on a battered old bike on weekends and the McPhail and Gadsby TV team were regulars.

McPhail, Gadsby, Ken Ellis (the radio announcer with the super smooth voice who was also on the TV show) etc. were there most weekends and I think enjoyed the ritual of me coming up on my bike to see if they'd paid.

Always had something witty to say.

It's great that they would play there because Hagley is the most down-to-earth working class golf club slap bang in the middle of the public park with low green fees and mostly just everyday people playing there.

Christchurch really was the TV comedy and satire capital of NZ in those days with the "McPhail and Gadsby" and "Billy T James" shows being recorded here.

A.K. Grant the satirical writer, Peter Rowley and Mark Hadlow were other people in that comedy scene.

Check out the major 1984 film "The Bounty" with Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson and Jon Gadsby is one of the crew along with Liam Neeson, Daniel Day-Lewis, Neil Morrissey, Bernard Hill, John Sessions and Phil Davis (Quadrophenia) who were all pretty unknown then but went on to big careers.

Jeez Wayne!

RIP Nick Hughes. Top man who inspired, encouraged and mentored a lot of young referees in Wellington.
