If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

My dad who is only 5 years younger than Jimmy Hill and grew up in London supported Fulham and always used to tell me stories about Jimmy and Johnny Haynes. RIP Jimmy Hill. Devoted his life to football.

As the head of the Players Union , saw the 20 pound pw maximum salary abolished in 1961.

That was a pretty good wage back then but fair to say the average wage of footballers has at least kept pace with inflation!

A real innovator of the game and quite an effort to carry that chin around for 87 years!

Bugger. Will watch his doco tonight and drink some beers. If you haven't seen it, do! It's freaking awesome!

My first introduction to Lemmy and Motorhead was seeing them play Ace of Spades on The Young Ones. His autobiography is worth a read as well.

Pavel Srnicek. Former Newcastle United goalkeeper. He was only 47 and had just finished writing his autobiography called Pavel is a Geordie. RIP.

That is the strangest thing.Got up this morning with Space Oddity in my head. The first thing i do on the net is come here to read this.Very odd.

Saw Dave live in Wellington in 1982 at Athletic Park.

Grew up with his songs as a kid in Nelson from "Laughing Gnome" to "Space Oddity" and  "Changes" etc.

His new album came out only two days ago - which was also Dave's 69th birthday.

New album "Blackstar" in full here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk1etr2EF_Y

His voice sounds great, especially considering his recent poor health.

I think his best periods musically were 1970 - 1980 and 1993 until now.
