My colour matters not. Although I must say I have benefitted financially through having a dash of Maori in me.

I'm not angry J82 just frustrated. If I gave a Maori dude a blanket because he was cold, would I be racist? No. Some over sensitive might percieve it that way, but in all seriousness it'd just be rediculous. Stop over thinking it.

You don't have to. Which is a point very much at the heart of this thread.

Try and imagine what your life would be like if you were born a different colour. Would it be better or worse? Is there any reason why it should be better or worse?

If you a really honest are you glad you were born the colour you are or do you wish you could change?

Your colour doesn't make you who you are, your surroundings do.

Your surroundings (in regard to how people treat you) can in some circumstances be different depending on the colour you are, and the way that you look.

My goodness it must be a sad life if everything you look at has a negative undertone to it somehow. It just makes me frustrated reading posts like that.

Actually, you put the negative spin on it yourself.

Trust me, I don't have the time or inclination to fly into a self-righteous rage every time I come across an incident of racism, no matter how big or small. But I am aware of it. And a few times in my life I've actually spoken up and done something about it. Made me fee pretty good actually.

One thing this thread has illustrated is what a loaded term "racism" is to some people. It seems impossible to even discuss the subject without people on both sides adopting almost polar extremes.

I hope you haven't really got the red mist Timmy! And seriously, just try checking out a couple of books from the sociology section of the library. What's the worst that could happen?

Maybe my view on this is slightly differed by the fact that I grew up in an area of Christchurch (Hornby) where it is very multi cultural. I was in the minority at school, being a white guy.
I don't see how I'm the one putting a negative spin on this..

Forgot to add, because of my surrounding growing up, I'm also very aware of it. Innocent mistakes do not equal racism.

But they can offend...have seen this with my very own eyes.

It's a tricky area, but nothing that can't be resolved with dialogue. Certainly better to do that than bury the head in the sand as far as I'm concerned.

Except no one has buried their head in the sand. People stated that they believe it wasnt a racist ad. People got offended by it,and i can see how it was percieved that way in the states. KFC recognised this also, and withdrew the ad. No need to over analyse it more than that.

Allegedly

Chill TM.

Term-X is actually giving this a bit of thought and analysis.

Unfortunately life isn't all peachy and luvvly jubbly. A bit of life experience will no doubt help you my young paduan.

Has he? Or has he just spouted out utter bullsh*t and nonsense.

I think you'll find its the latter.

To say again, noone complained before someone pointed out it was 'racist' to african-americans.

Exactly - I didn't mean to imply that there were heads in the sand here. The issue got pointed out, was discussed, KFC pulled the and won't be doing anything like that again.

Dialogue/open discussion helps resolve things like this.
