Anyway, I hate left v right arguments. Peeps gotta work together for a common good, regardless of political spectrum. Dismissing people as either right wing or left helps nothing.
This statement is a contradiction though, working for the common good is not a right wing belief... at all, well in fundamental terms.
I doubt most serious right wingers would agree - most right wing political parties believe economic freedom, strong private property rights and strong legal authority etc are for the common good, and what the majority wants.
Had written up a big reply, but decided to delete.
But, I'll just say that I disagree with the statement, that people with right-wing fundamental beliefs believe in common good.

You could just explain how right wing economic policy helps others, rather than saying stuff like 'pretty sad case of ignorance". This is what I mean about name calling that gets people nowhere. People aren't going to magically agree wth your arguments because you call them ignorant; in fact you'll just make them want to disagree with you.

But the point I'm making is that every right wing policy that say, Act comes out with, instantly becomes just "rich mans greed" so "<insert politician> and his cronies can get richer"
Its pretty clich�d and annoying. The "right wing" just happens to align with most economics - increasing efficiency (therefore growth and therefore everyones standard of living) In a political sense this is generally through loosening up legislation, tax breaks to increase production, etc etc. (trying not to write an economics exam)

Economics is a very real thing, not edited to suit capitalists as some may believe, but a study that has gone on for centuries. Most right wing policies have this economic backing. I believe anyone in parliament who wishes to comment on growth / trade / inflation etc should have studied basic economics. Thing is very little people in our parliament has.
Sure they have advisers, but they just tell them what they want to hear. Look at the amount of MPs now days - so many have degrees in Political Science or Bachelor of Arts. Seriously?Michael2010-06-23 18:01:09

Was recently reading in The Guardian an opinion piece about football being a tool of capitalists to prevent radical change from the masses, and that nobody who is serious about societal change believes in anything other than the abolition of the sport...
I'm guessing the author got picked last at lunchtime footy, and his missus cheated on him with John Terry.

How great would anarchistic football be? Everyone ganging up with their mates to make a massive team, or 22 blokes all playing for themselves (a bit like France vs England, really). You could have 5 balls and goals on the sidelines!

Good piece, but I do have to ask one thing. As descendants of colony and empire, maybe we are in a position to advise other countries on the pitfalls of occupation and colonisation?
