Hey guys,

can you all throw your support behind me and my fellow telco workers who are currently fighting against Telecom.

Telecom is trying to implement a new company into the industry called Visionstream. What this company does is force workers to buy all equipment and to become dependant contractors.

This model puts all the risk onto the guys doing the work. there is NO guarantee of work and what work theywould get is paid on a job by job basis at a VERY unreasonable rate.

Workers will have no say if this is brought into place. Some equpiment that will need to be purchased costs more than a vehicle.

This will be the beginning of the end of the industry. please sign this as it could be your industry/career that could be next if we don't stop this now!!!!!!!!!

More info can be shown if you would like to know more about what is going on.

Down with Corporate Bullying. Power to the People!!!!!

On behalf of the guys on strike at the moment I'd like to say thanks in advance for signing.

cheers

Jonathan

Interestingly I've been watching "Back to the Floor" the British TV programme on the Doco channel where the head CEO/Chairman of a company goes and work on the floor.

Now I've noticed that pretty much every episode shows that it is the middle and higher management who are the clueless, lazy idiots who are ruining companies not the shop floor workers.

Now this might be the intentional bias of the team behind the programme, maybe they are all subscribers to Socialist Worker or they might think making management look stupid will appeal to the masses.

The programme however really shows some truly awful human beings sitting in nice offices doing f*ck all and earning a lot of money, while they sack floor workers and the company fails.

Last night at the usual board meeting at the end of the show the chairmen returning to the board room is banging on about how crap the company is and how they need to empower the workforce. Some Young tw*t on the board pipes up, "You need to light the fire inside of them not under them."  Cue uncomfortable silence around the table. I wonder how much he and people like him get paid to come up with pearls of wisdom like that? Pointless people in pointless positions.

I'll sign.

This rate may be as low as $38 a job. I spoke to a guy who said he went recently to a job. The whole thing was a "shambles" and it took two days work to correct it. Under the new scheme he would have been paid that one rate for the job!  Could you make do on $19 a day?

Telecom have three companies doing this type of work for them. Only Visionstream have suggested going down this path.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

That's because TV is an ILLUSION. To borrow a word a YFer offered me recently that programmes of the type of "Back to the Floor"  are INFOTAINMENT. It's not a serious look at business practice.

the other two companies are offering a pay per job scheme by which you only get paid for the work you do so same to extent as visionstream, only REAL difference is that with the others you are employed by them.

So exactly the same scenario as you have pointed out would apply to all thru out the country.

I have done this before and earned not to bad, but the difference being that the rate that they are offering is anywhere from 10% - 50% less per job and the rates I'm going byare the rates I was on 5 years ago. The latest is that they are offering a base retainer so if you don't earn enough you can fall back on that.

Sounds fine until you see what they're offering and realise that the retainer is what guys I work with is what they were earning in 1993. THAT IS HOW BACKWARDS THIS INDUSTRY IS GOING.

There is no way to earn a decent living if they get away with what they are trying to do.

Plenty more reasons how they are shafting us too. But I'll be going for hours .

One last thing, when we had our meeting with our new employer they lied straight to our faces about a number of things. They have kept lying and same with Telecom etc. I am normally a trusting person but all that is gone on in the last few months has changed me into someone who cannot believe a word that comes out of their mouths. So far haven't had a reason to change back either. LIES LIES LIES. enough said .

That's  pretty much what I said if you read my post, third paragraph?

Also thanks for putting those two words in BOLD I may have struggled with understanding your concepts without you doing that, cheers.

Still completely subjectively, purely on my own experience of working for 20 years, I'd have to say however that middle management are the Arse Clowns of any organization, them and HR.

That show sounds like certain government agencies where the front line staff are good but the head office staff staff in some sort of fantasy world.

600 jobs gone on the news tonight since TeleCON started outsourcing technician jobs and a further 150 (?) still to go. WTF ! A few of the executives need to be given a bullet without a redundency package, let them feel the heat and learn how it feels.

That seems fair on a bunch of mom and pop investors who's life savings are getting hammered by finance company failures, bank bail-outs and share collapses.
