if the rumours are true that he has sold out for the money then i am fuming. i understand the argument you cant turn down that kind of money but the pure fact is he owes nz cricket. he has been one of our top 3 contracted players sine 2001 and has played maybe in a third of our games. now he turns down 250 grand u.s to play in the sanctioned tournament and plays for 750 in the rebel.
its the fact he truend down the sanctioned offer that really fuks me off.
maybe my anger also comes from the fact with bond we had a chance of beating the poms in the tests, now we have no chance.

We still have a chance to beat the poms - face it Bond would have played the first two days of the first test, got injured then sat in the stands getting paid. At least this way we have a full squad. Don't ge tme wrong I'm pissed he's sold out, but looking on the bright side we may well be better off without him - Martins looking good, its just a metter of finding a good bowler at the other end. theprof2008-01-28 11:10:57

perhaps overrated was a little harsh - fragile is more appropriate, in both body and mind - he broke down way too often and even if he was feeling fit, the first little twinge or ache, he'd be out for months - what fast bowler anywhere in the world doesn't play with sligh shoulder, back or knee ache? theprof2008-01-28 15:12:41

But he had really serious injuries, with both the back and knee injuries which can be career-ending for professional athletes.
I also think it's a bit rich for people to tell him he's sold out, when they're not in his position. He's spent months and months in operating rooms and rehabs and tried his very best to keep playing for New Zealand, when many others would have found it easy to give up. And now that he has an opportunity to set himself up for life - knowing full well that he hasn't got too much cricket left in him - people are attacking him. Would I prefer that he played out the rest of his career as a NZ test and ODI cricketer? Yes. But I fully understand his decision and don't in the least begrudge it. I'm just thankful that he's given me some great moments (especiallly against Australia) to savour, and wish him all the best in the future.

good on him, take the money and run - put in the same position we all would and don't pretend you wouldn't.

He would have been crazy to have turned down what is believed to be 800000 per season. As much as i dont like the fact he has gone who in their right mind would turn that sort of money down.

True but considering he was more often than not, injured. His game totals are no where near as high as they should have been. Still on the good side at least now the NZ Cricket's sick bed wil be vacant for anyone else to use now.
