Insomnia...

So about two weeks ago I started struggling with sleep (I have had very bad insomnia before at one point I went about a couple of months with no more than 3hrs sleep), I was getting ~2-3hrs sleep a night, it got to the point where I was unable to function (about 5 days in with a total of 12hrs sleep) so iwent and saw the Doc, she asked a bunch of questions, gave me some sleeping pills and suggested reduction of afternoon caffeine (Fair enough), so taking the sleeping pills.

Night 1: 6 hours sleep (Admittedly in two bursts of 3hrs each) - 6-7hrs is about normal for me...

Night 2: 5 hours sleep (8pm til 1am)

Night 3: 6 hours sleep (5hrs and then 1hr)

Night 4: ~4hrs sleep (Unsure as I was really restless and in and out with long periods awake)

Anyway now last night was night 6 on the pills, and I got about 5hrs again, now normally this wouldn't be an issue for me as I can get by on that much sleep, but the issue is that I am still waking in the middle of the night, last night I went to sleep about 9pm and woke at 12:30, and it then took me til 1:30 to get back to sleep, with my body giving up on sleep at 3:30am.

So now that you have the background my stupid question is: Does anyone have any ideas for how to help me, or should I go back to the Doc and ask her to see if there is something else that might work better?

Sorry I didnt mean to kill the thread like that.

How you getting on with this?

Actually doing much better, am going to bed slightly later, taking the pill my normal Doc gave me (it's a different one that helps stay asleep rather than knocking out, used in Europe/US for jetlag) and combined it seems to be working, only night I have woken in the middle of the night since was when my cat brought us a bird at 1am...

Yeah it was really starting to get me down.

Very pleased to be sleeping, still not really caught up (Still feel tired), but I know it is improving and I think that is the thing that makes the difference, a feeling of improvement.

I don't sleep very well and the advice I have received is to TRY and not worry about not sleeping. I know it's an easy thing to say but anxiety about not sleeping only makes it worse.
