Man I hate these Cartels. In competition with each other? Yeah right, The only competition is who can keep it the highest, not the cheapest. And regardless of which party is in Government, you can bet they wont step in. The higher the price the larger the 30% immediate tax grab from the Petrol Companies and then of course our own GST grab as well.

BP (always first to lift their prices), Caltex, Shell, Mobil, & The Government of the day, Shame on you all!

not wanting to rile you up even more LG, but when I used to work at shell head office, I questioned them about the price rises, and they showed me a graphic which illustrated the pricing and where it comes from.....30% tax - dreaming - its more like 65% of the cost of fuel, with ACC levies, road user costs blah blah plus GST....the actual cost and profit to the company only comes form 35% of the pump charge.

If the Govt wanted to do anything it should simply reove half the f**king tax on fuel and we'd save a massive amount at the pump - but then the govt loses an major revenue stream too - and to thing they are about to add an aditional 5c /litr on for regional road upg.

You're not riling me, you coming out with some truths. I thought it was 65% but some guy on the radio today said it was only a 30% grab. Trouble is no politician is ever gong to stand up and be counted by dropping their largest income earner! Lonegunmen2008-04-23 18:26:18

govt trying to force cars off the road. problem is with this though that new zealand doesn't have the public transport networks to cope.

Even in the Cocos Islands? If you think I'm complaining, you should listen to talk back radio and hear the voices of the people. Right now the politicians and the oil companies are public enemy number 1.

I was in Dubai last month - they give you a free oil tanker of petrol with every coffee bought.  People wash and water their plants in that sh*t man.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite

The price of fuel is way out of control, no longer dioes it take a war or major catastrophe in the middle east to make prices go up....all it takes is the sun to rise the moon to fall and hello another 3c per litre.

The major fuel companies have a responsibility to play fair. NZ does have the public transport infrastructre to make not having a car viable. I can and do often bus to work, but there are days when I have to use my car - admittedly I don't drive the most economic vehicle in the world but then why should I? Just becuase some draconian oil tychoon wants to control his oil price.

Cosimo, what do you think the chances are of someone actually trying that? Very high, I'd say.

im presuming you live in wellington though? or maybe auckland? try being in a provincial centre. the same argument often used about keeping the driving age at 15 about rural populations needing to drive works here to i think. there isnt the money or the goodwill from people in the provinces to make public transport work.

Why is it that I have lived in so many countries and yet New Zealand's "government" has been the worst I have come across?

I've experienced the likes of Chinese communism, John Howard and Gordon Brown yet this lot have surpassed them all in complete incompetence.

price of everything goes up as the cost of transporting it goes up which is directly linked to the price of fuel.

St Johns put the price of their Heine up to $7.5 from $7 within 6 weeks of opening, the thieving bar stewards

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Not everyone. Drinking at home has many advantages - NO DIC, Can collapse anywhere in the house and be safe. Cheaper buying the cans at the Supermarket. The only real  time I have a beer now is at the BB or 4 Kings before Nix games or at awards.

5 years ago I used to fill my little 1300 Corolla from dead empty to almost overflowing for $35. Now it's more closer to $70. I wouldn't mind if I was getting twice as much value, but my car still drinks it at the same rate and I don't get to travel twice as far!

Ps: Cosimo, it might not be the price of porn that goes up but something is bound to rise!
