Geez sorry to offend all you sensitive folk out there. Was just messing around in Dreamweaver one day and came up with that and a Ronaldo article which you will find in the ManU thread. Didn't expect people to take it so seriously (i'm looking at you Calum and Harry).

Three for me, and two for them.

Lighten up?

Tell me this. Would you have considered running a similar paradoy about the colour of Cole's skin? I very much doubt it (I hope!). Yet, there was a time in history when 'just joking' about the colour of someone's skin would also have been passed as 'humour'.

Fast forward to today...how is substituting Racism for Homophobia any different? HarryHotspur2008-04-03 15:40:25

Here here. Of all people you'd think spurs fans would be used to lightening up.

Their league performances are more comedic than the article.

What, no big deal in the same way that asking Rosa Parks to move seat on the Montgomerry bus was for many years?

Until she said 'enough is enough'. You know my position on bigotry, in whatever guise it comes.

Trying to deflect a very dodgy position by mocking my football club (I've no problem with that, I still bare the scars of my self-flagellation!!) is rather lame too!HarryHotspur2008-04-03 17:53:10

Well said Harry, my thoughts exactly.  That said, I think I picked up Frankie recently about some misogynistic comments had had made as well in the name of "humour" so we shouldn't be surprised that he thinks it funny.  I mean, on what basis exactly has someone decided that Cole might be gay and therefore funny to suggest that fact as a slur on him? Is being gay funny, or is that just what you have to say to be one of the lads in the Fever zone?

Lighten up?  We'll lighten up when you grow up. Sure, you can say what you like on here but you also have to expect some self regulation from your peers.  It's called feedback and you should learn from it.  Homophobia is no different from racism and equally unacceptable.  End of.

...and is your assertion that because one person (an Aucklander who has never been in the Fever Zone) posts something homophobic any reason to make generalisations about the whole Fever Zone ?

No, my assertion is he's trying to be "one of the lads" and if his assessment of what people here will find funny is something homophobic then he's badly misjudged it.

...again, a generalisation based on what evidence ?

If I thought Chelsea are vile and reprehensible and your owner is crook who should be hung.  Does that mean everyone in the stadium feels the same way ?

Not everyone on here is in the Fever Zone.  Some (like Tawa) hate the Fever Zone with a passion, others have no interest.  To take a statement posted on here and assume it is a general rule of everyone of the 500+ people in the zone on matchdays is inaccurate, and is exactly the behaviour that caused Tawa to hate the zone so much.

And if homophobia is no different from racism, where does mocking ugly and fat people fit into the equation?  Better or worse?

What I don't understand is how people who make any form of joke at any minority's expense are branded as haters. If i took the mickey out of someone for their driving skills, (regardless of what they actually where) does that make me a hater of all motorists?
The term Homophobic is a heavy sledge that people who cant form decent arguments love to swing.
Yesterday i teased a colleague because of his new haircut (he let his flatmate do it, and now he has a bizarre resemblance to vanilla ice), does that mean i hate people with bad hair cuts, white rappers and everything to do with the 80's. this whole argument boils down to the fact that someone has taken offence to the fact that Ashley Cole has been insinuated to be a Homosexual. Does that offend all homosexuals to imply that he could be one?

Righteous indignation should only be justified by those who are targets of intentional malice and hostility. To be offended on their behalf is just as belittling and demeaning. If you find a homosexual to post their opinion of the offending material and can justify that the joke was intended to hurt gay people then fine by me. otherwise please, get a life and stay off the Internet if you are that easily offended.

HN your earlier comments about Chelsea are true. many QPR fans knew thiswas the story. Ashley Cole or A. Hole, as Frankie knows him, is well suited for a place at Chelsea.

As a member of a minority club on here (QPR fans), I hope none of you offend or bully me because of my views.

Ashley Cole got away with a sh*t tackle and even sh*ttier treatment of the match referee - end of story!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Are you suggesting that he got away with the tackle because he is gay?
