Face it, it is the Greens are just trying to grab the beneficiary vote. 

I'm very disappointed if they do away with the drug testing. Surely if you are on a benefit your priorities should not be booze, smokes nor drugs. It should be shelter and food. 

And as for the draconian requirement that people on A job seekers benefit make themselves available to actually look for work.... pfffffft

Fail rate of 1.4 percent. Hardly a problem. Might even be lower than the general public.

It's actually removing the financial punishment for not meeting requirement. Because, you know, taking money off people struggling to make ends meet, probably doesn't help much.

drug testing is fair enough if you are using drugs before going to or during work, but if you are just sitting in the lounge at home after work in the evening having a quiet puff i do not really agree with it. someone else can go home drink large amounts of alcohol and still be over the legal drink driving limit the next day and go to work with no testing at all. people hung over at work can be more dangerous than someone who puffs on a joint 10 hours before they go to work.

His back is shot as well, hasn't been able to play drums for a few years. Must be very tough psychologically to lose the physical ability to play yor instrument of choice.

Last year the final was here with a kiwi ref so can't complain.

My 6 year old answered the phone and a foreign man asked to speak to my wife, she got on the phone and he says to her that their is a problem with our computer. My wife says to him, "You realise you have rung a Police Woman's place?". His response was "Oh Fudge" and hung up. Damn, I wish I had been there.

They called up my girlfriend the other day, she said "I'll just go and turn on my computer." and then just left the phone off the hook for twenty minutes until they finally hung up.

Good job by her. The longer they're on the phone with you, the fewer people they're going to rip off. 

Yep, if I have time and nothing else on i'll play dumb till they get frustrated.

A friend of mine is an unemployed pothead - only unemployed because of random drug tests I might add, not for any other reason.  He walked everywhere, grew most of his own food, cooked on a camp oven to save power, etc. that's how.

Didn't spend money on deodorant, soap etc...

When Jacinda Ardern says she's ready does that mean the rest of New Zealand are waiting impatiently in the car for 20mins while she fudges around doing unneccessary jobs inside before leaving the house?

Funny how conservatives don't like government intervention (unless it's corporate socialism) because it's "communism" but don't want to give people freedoms when it doesn't suit them.

Personally I don't give a flying fudge if you root your brain on grog or weed as long as your doing so  does not effect me.

Cannabis used in moderation is probably no worse than heading a ball every weekend.

No but I did argue for 25 years about why having long termed unemployed (the unemployable) is economic and social madness.

I take no pride in being proven right but I would think those whose claim to hold Personal Responsibility as a credo to now uphold. 

Before the global recession our unemployment rate was 3.3 per cent, so there is some way to go until so called full employment (if we actually had it then which is debatable)
