Anyone else by now would have shown some form and resigned.

Resign and lose all the cash and perks that come with being an MP?

Career MP's never resign unless they are pushed and have no other option.

More than likely things just get hushed up and covered up as in the Todd Barkley incident.

In the meantime we get to watch blatantly deceptive politicians wriggle and squirm as they try to reassure us they are honest all the while doing all that they can to ensure their wages and perks continue to be paid.

Fonterra's ads on TV are total bollocks. Do they think a smiley happy TV campaign will clean up all the mess dairy is bringing to NZ countryside?!

Fonterra can go fudge themselves :)

The Greens: a party that started out with all the right intentions but they have gone up their own A-hole. Should be renamed the Social Justice Warriors Party.

I used to vote for them in the past now I wouldn't touch em with a barge pole.

Bring back the McGillicuddy Serious Party, the only ever honest political party! Yolo

re that Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary. It is not what it seems seems. Far from it. Search through the RadioNZ site. There are several lengthy interviews that explain why the Nats created it and to what end. Well worth your time.

This https://www.radionz.co.nz/news/te-manu-korihi/313303/govt-to-delay-kermadec-ocean-sanctuary-bill is not great but will give you an idea.

yeah I am sure it is not perfect and there are issues with Legislation as presently drafted, but surely as an environment party you would think "let's support this to select committee and at least try and get something out of it".

It could easily be returned to SC or have changes made before the next reading.

At the point it stalled the Greens were supportive. I guess Winstone is now pulling all the strings

NZ First got big backing from the fishing biz in the election so maybe that is the case.

I've just skimmed the first five docs on this search "kermadec sanctuary select committe filetype:pdf" it gets complicated.  Need time to get to grips...

On another matter. I had a letter from Minister Peters yesterday. I shall have to scan it as I don't think you'd believe me if I described the content.

Idiots. Do they think old Polar Bears go to a retirement home when they get old and Sick ?

The fact is Polar Bear population is now almost double what it was in 1960 and continues on an upward trend

You see a video like that and your first impulse is to call people idiots?

It's clear that man made climate change is destroying polar bear habitats.

Do you know why polar bear numbers have increased since the sixties? In the sixties they stopped hunting them for fur...

No. The first instinct is "that Bear does not look well".  The second is thinking idiots for making the leap to blame it on climate change.

This Canadian study contends finds no evidence that Polar Bears are threatened by Global Warming.

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ece3.20...

The continued population growth backs that up.

And this one shows that there is a decline in population associated with a loss of sea ice:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1890/14-1129...

The national geographic states on that video that it's a starving bear, how do you know it's old or sick other than being malnourished?

It's fairly obvious that a species that lives on sea ice would suffer when said sea ice goes...

Reguardless, that's a painful video to watch and getting angry is about the last reaction you should have to it.

The amount of ice in polar regions is decreasing alarmingly that's a fact. The NW passage being a prime example.

Polar Bears use the ice flows to hunt their prey and now it is becoming more difficult for them as the ice opens up

ergo global warming is in fact threatening Polar Bears.

When citing evidence about global warming it is always important to check the sources and see who paid for the report to be made ie what was their agenda. It is a very politicised science unfortunately.

The scary thing is that the people who go on about how climate change is a hoax actually know that it's real, they very carefully find the outliers in a dataset that illustrate their point of view even if the vast majority of data contradicts it. These people know that climate change is real but put out this message that it's a hoax because it would hurt them.

They're throwing away everything in favor of short term returns.

Rather late.

Last sentence starting 'New Zealand companies'. Ballance and Ravensdown claim they are doing nothing wrong. MFAT accepts that and doesn't challemge it.

Not really fair to criticise the Minister directly on this as he inherited this particular MFAT position. Be interesting to see if it changes though.

Actually that is quite a good response from Peters. I assume he wrote it and has at least read your letter in the first place. Well done Winston.

Amazing, just amazing. All the school shootings in the USA, And President Donald Trump's response is..........

Allow the Teachers to carry hidden guns, it will stop it.

FFS: first teacher that shoots a kid will be branded either a redneck, a racist, or a mass murder in disguise. To me this says that Trump does not value anyone else's life except his own. Shooting students is not the answer imho.

Would also make guns even more accessible to psychopathic students, want to shoot up a school? just borrow your teacher's gun.

The leaders following Mandela, who did the most amazing work to hold together an incredibly divided country, have seemingly spat on his legacy.

This quote "The time for reconciliation is over" from the new President just made me incredibly sad.  I have been hopeful it wouldn't go this way, but it really does look like they could be heading in the Zimbabwe direction.  I understand they have pressures from the incredibly abused majority to equalise massive injustices, but doing it by tearing everything down just seems a bad way to go about it.
