I'm not a boxing fan but I am very excited by this fight, some guy on the radio just said the Tua v Lewis fight was the 2nd most watched event in NZ TV history, I think this would be equally as big. Talking about having it at Vector, $40 bucks to watch it pay-per-view. Does it excite any of you lot?

Didn't know Tua was suicidal?

Cameron will pulverise him into retirement...

Cameron to win on points.  Tua hasn't been knocked out and has the chin, Cameron will just jab him into 12 10-9 rounds, with Tua swinging for the fences.

tv arrangements havent been confirmed _ I wouldnt pay-per-view, but would watch it at the pub.
The promotor hasnt ruled out the ROF as the venue but the fight is in June so that coul be dodgy.

Fight going to be in the Tron, both Auckland Council and Wellington Council not prepared to underwrite it. Not surprised that Auckland didn't given the Beckham fiasco but surprised Wellington didn't step up

I'm not - Tua's way past his use-by date as a boxer, and hasn't really been in the public eye for a good length of the time. Cameron's really a journeyman in boxing terms, and although he's got some loyal followers, you can hardly see the thousands flocking to see him box. Add into the mix that boxing's reputation has dropped to some of it lowest depths, and it's not all that surprising that Councils are running scared.

I disagree, I think the fight has the potential to be massive. Sure Tua isn't what he was 5 years ago and Cameron probably isn't world class but as far as I am aware NZ has never had two decent heavyweights at the same time so to have them fight each other on NZ soil I really think will capture peoples imagination. If it's done right that is

Boxing... I'm not sure this forum has a big enough font for me to indicate the sheer volume of Meh I have for this 'sport'.

Anyway, carry on.

Tua was a big name when I was at school - say, 1997 maybe? That was a looong time ago. He's done nothing of note not in the last 5 years, but in the last 10. His name just doesn't ring as many bells as it used to, and I doubt he'd be of much use in the boxing ring now anyway. Like I said with Cameron, good guy, but as a boxer he's just not going to attract the casual fan. All in all, this has the potential to be a complete and utter disaster, and like I said, I understand Councils' concerns about underwriting costs. Sure some people would go and watch, but I really doubt that masses would flock to see this.

I'm happy to be proven wrong though.

I'm going to agree with boppy on this one, Tua versus Cameron- these are the two biggest names in New Zealand boxing for a long time going at it. When Cameron was an up and comer, there was enough discussion about who is better, who has more potential, and I think the media will come out to play for this to make sure the fight night is a success. The fight itself may be sh*te, but I think the hype surrounding it in the lead up will be enough to define it a success.

Haha, let's Have It On in Hamilton

I won't take the credit for that one, but I feel it wouyld be a travesty if it was not used to promote the fight.

Well done hamilton for getting this in your city! I reckon Tua can win it, provided he can get around or under Cameron's jab - Cameron cuts quite badly so if Tua can land a few decent shots he'll get through. Otherwise it will be a Cameron win - jabs all the way.

well, being a big boxing fan, I'm excited! the heavyweight division is crap at the moment, but the light, welter and middleweight division are pretty strong. It's good to get a decent heavyweight fight in NZ.

Cameron, as tough as he is, doesn't have much style, power and even less speed. I see it as either - Tua will be past it and out of shape, and Cameron will keep his distance and try to jab his eyes out, therefore winning on points,

or Tua will be able to cut off the ring and fight on the inside, in which case Cameron will be pissing blood the next day and Tua will win by TKO.

Tua is an immensely strong puncher, and the last thing to go when a boxer ages is his power. But his footwork will probably be very sluggish.

I'm not sure about the success of the fight, but Tua will still be a big drawcard I reckon - we're not going to have a boxer as good as him again for a long time.
