What a total rip off!

Well that frees up my Friday now. Just have to wait and see if Telecom sell the iPhone when they launch their new network at the end of the year.

To purchase an iPhone 3G with no plan you'll need to visit a Vodafone retail store.

Telecom won't be any better, they are notoriously bad at clipping the ticket multiple times.

In India on your normal cell phone you pay a massive 2 cents (NZ) per minute. Cell phones and cellular internet in the country are such a rip off it's criminal. Mind you so are normal household broadband charges.

When Telecom launch their UMTS network it will help as then they will be competing with Vodaphone with comparable products.

Also, 3rd operator coming soon.

Except the UMTS network cover will be tiny and most of it will be roaming on Voda, and everything I here about the 3rd player suggests they are the New Zealand Knights of the Telecommunications industry.

Jeez, they're almost Sky'esque in their pricing, cheapest option $549 +$80 p/m (I take it it's a 24month plan) no thank you

Telstra in Oz are offering

Telstra's two-year iPhone plans start at $30 a month with an upfront cost of $279 for the 8GB model and $399 for the 16GB model.

Whereas Optus are offering

On pre-paid, the 8GB and 16GB models will cost $729 and $849, respectively. Optus is offering $30, $40 $50, $70 and $100 cap plans.

The pre-paid handset can be unlocked for use on other mobile networks for an $80 fee.

For post-paid, the cheapest iPhone plan from Optus is $19 a month with $50 worth of calls and texts and 100MB of mobile internet data. On top of this, for the 8GB model, the handset itself costs $51 a month on a one year contract and $21 a month on a two year contract.

For $79 and no upfront cost (for the 8GB model on a two year contract) customers receive $550 worth of calls and texts and 700MB of mobile internet data.

The largest post-paid plan is $179 a month and includes $1500 worth of calls and texts and 1GB of mobile internet data. The handset itself is free if customers choose a 24-month contract or $23 a month for the 8GB version on a 12-month contract.

Get an Optus p/pay handset, unlock it (which they're happy to do) then your in business - at whatever plan you want to be on...

(which is exactly what I did with my handset)
