WARRIORS' SONNY FAI PRESUMED DROWNED

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

The search for a Warriors player missing from a West Auckland beach has been called off for the day.

The family of missing Warriors player Sonny Fai are not giving up hope he may still be alive. The 20 year old is presumed drowned after trying to help save his younger brother at west Auckland's Bethells Beach last night.

Lalelei Fai says her brother was her parents' right hand man and the extra training session he was on at the beach last night is typical of his hard work ethic. His family are distraught but remain hopeful, and are thankful for the support of the Warriors team, Bethell's surf-club and their Church.

Local life savers say rips are common at the beach and there are two out there today.

Sonny Fai has not been seen since last night when he was swept away while trying to save his younger brother. The family have been joined by Warriors players who have cancelled pre-season training to join the search.

However surf lifesaving and police have advised searchers to postpone their hunt due to a change in the tide. The search will resume at first light tomorrow.

The West Coast beaches of Auckland are an entirely different proposition to off the end of Kapiti Island.

My thoughts go out to his loved ones and the Warriors community. I really hope we hear some good news, however unlikely that may be.

And who cares about him.
Really sad how its the ones who are young and have everything going their way are the ones who are taken away.
