WELLYWOOD ?

Yes  ,No?
My preference would be HERBERTVILLE  or IFILL TOWERS
Seriously though  I think the whole concept is a bit of  tacky waste of money like one of these "great ideas" you have when your pissed but in the cold light of day you realise that its all  bit silly really!
Opinions anyone !

Completely unoriginal and stoopid. And tacky too.

Unfortunately taken by a town that has zero attraction.

Ifill Towers, I like it.

As for Wellywood? I actually quite like it- kind of fair given WETA/Peter Jackson's heritage here. Far better than Rotovegas that's for sure.

Why put a sign there anyway.  People knew where they were and, in the case of people travelling to Wellington, they knew where they were going (one can expect) so this sign's purpose is redundant and, if anything, could confuse some people and think they missed the turn-off to Wellington.

The amounts of money wasted on unnecessary sh*t is mind boggling.  Tax-payers money I'm guessing?  In Christchurch they used a massive amount on that big goblet, was it quarter of a million?

Hollywood is a polluted dump.  Why on earth is Wellingon aspiring to be similarly known?  Vegas is awful and heavy touristed so fair call on Rotovegas.

Next logical step is calling the beehive the white hive.

Nothing says 'home of creativity' like stealing someone else's idea.

Pathetic. Not apathetic.

Like when one of those uniformed girls at the coffee zone at Welly airport told me how she didn't like those big coffee chains 'cos they were unoriginal...

"Wairoa.  The way NZ used to be"

multiple entendres there.

I think its the airport people that are paying for it ,the same ones that are building that ridiculous pumpkin shed .
I note that the mayor was on telly greasing up to proposers of sign claiming that she doesn't know anything about these things but if Peter Jackson likes it then it must be okay !the same mayor that removed the welcome to nuclear free Wellington sign from outside the airport(Calabar drive) a few years back,I know which sign would give me more comfort when arriving at Wellington !
It was also mentioned on the news tonight that many of the workers at the Park road studios are more than a little embarrassed about the proposal!

The Wellywood sign if anything is an embarrassment. It's completely tacky. Why the f**k would you put that in Wellington?

I supposer as  a 1 - 2 month gimmiky promotion it would be okay ,although the obvious time for that wouid have been Oscars week so they have missed that boat on that one ,but the thought of the thing being up there forever is really daft.
Maybe they could just have  giant scrabble letters and change it every week!
Just think in two weeks time it would read Wellington welcomes back the 2009-2010 A league champions, that would be cool!

SIGH

Huge pointless waste

However on the plus side - provide a new location for taggers to really go to town on
Wonder how long it will take, IF it goes ahead, before its tagged to pieces

I like this. A little more low key (Thanks Robb)

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

haha classic. reluctant to admit it but i was born there. well known for it's gangs, river and it's bakery. kind of reminds me of this

as for the wellywood sign..i wouldn't mind if it was a temporary thing but certainly not a fan if it's to be permanentTopLeft072010-03-10 20:23:41
