I will cop more flack for this but it needs to be said. the message board users need to reflect a little while, at themselves and at the direction this site is going to go.

What started off as an innovative positive website of many diverse opinions but lately input is deteriorating IMHO. No longer are arguments met with counter arguments or alternative points of view. This has been replaced with cheapshots, and humiliation. Some coming from people whom I thought better of. It is sad and disappointing to see this happening far too much.

I admit I brought some of the heat upon myself. I like looking outside the small square. I made an apology about that but coming on here today to check my PM's I see that another "target" has been selected. That's cool, if it makes you feel "big" having a cheapshot at someone. When this site first started, it would have been met with a constructive argument or counter argument. Thats what made this site so awesome.

My hope is that this message board would return to how it started off. Somewhere along the way it has started to become unstuck. It can be overcome for sure. I've had a quick look around and I see that although our membership on here has increased, the number of posters has decreased. perhaps this is genuinely because it is the "off season", perhaps too it's because of people being put off due to reading the personal attacks on various users. Maybe they feel what they have to say might not be seen in a favourable light by others.

Some personalities on here really do need to reflect on thir attitude. I have spent a week doing so myself. I have discussed it with a few others on here and I am also appreciative of most of the responses to my apology. I still hold my hand up to be counted but even with this last week "off" here, the same sort of crap has still been going on. Friendly banter is one thing but some of the remarks /responses I have read on here today is another.

The moderators are here to police the site and make sure there's nothing over the top, racist, inciting violence, promoting negative behaviour. But they too have to beware of their own actions/responses. To fall into the same trap as some users would not be the most positive way to be promoting this website.

Summing up, instead of feeling incensed by this thread, take the time to reflect. If you have a constructive argument, use it. If you don't agree with a poster, there's no need to put them down to boost your own ego. You may well be the person who is driving some fans from either posting on here, or away from the site and the Nix. Remember we are here for the Wellington Phoenix, We are here to promote the Wellington Phoenix, We are here to offer our individual opinions and views. no one of us is any bigger or better than the next fan.

Agreed.
I feel the level of contributions compared to pointless abuse in some topics seems to be a little out of kilter.

A lot of content and topics people just don't see because as mods we tend to pick up on it pretty quickly. But there are some people on here who value their own opinion above others or think they speak for the entire yellow fever community when they don't. I have had to stop some valid discussions due to the responses where it is easier just to close the thread than moderate every second post, but not not as often as I have had to remove the complete rubbish threads.

I cant speak for the other Mod's but I know it is hard to be objective some times when some posters make me completely crazy with their attitudes, but as long as they are not breaking the rules, I will let them have their say.

i think a lot of has to do with the fact that aside from transfer speculation, there's not much to talk about really. I think also there's a bit of the case of 'in the good old days' going on though, i mean there has always been cheap shots on here. Also, as you get to know people's personalities more, you kind of become more relaxed about posting stuff...just like when you give your mates sh*t...i don't mean any harm LG, if i try to be funny in a reponse to your posts it's meant to be laughing with you, not at you. Same goes for anyone else, except those that are deliberately trying to be pricks, which is hardly anyone.  I just don't like using the thing cos it dilutes any (attempted) humour. Maybe i should have a permanent one stickied in the corner.

Well said LG.

Coming from an inexperienced Johnny-come-lately who's opinion doesn't count for much. (to those who think they matter)

But I fully concur - the change has been evident, eben whilst in Oz.

Agree with some of what you say LG.But unfortunately its the nature if the beast when we are all  using mostly hidden IDs it allows some of the cowards to take some unnecessary potshots. Also just maybe my friend you have taken some of the replies to your posts more personally than they are intended.

You also pointed out one of the reasons this is going on and thats the fact its off season and not much is happening.A perfect example of that are the pointless El**ch threads and the way someone who is no longer in our squad still gets forum space.

Time to laugh it off mate and get back on the boards i for one have missed your contributions.

If you think about its actually a good test if you meet a new Phoenix fan and ask if they are on the YF site and they say yes,you then ask what there handle is and you are meet with sideway glances and a mumble. You can bet they have probably either sl*gged you off at some stage or are to embarrassed about what they post.

I love yous all.

You've made football a serious part of the sporting landscape in NZ, and that's no small thing.

I will, however, reserve the right to come on here and take the piss when the mood takes me.

In a effort to try and find out what's going on with transfers and other subjects of interest and relevance to the Nix I have spent a bit of time reading other forums. Many of those forums are characterised by a very limited number of people posting and threads turning personal very quickly.

I've generally found the Yellow Fever forum and threads to be far more intelligent and far less personal than others. This is a credit to both the contributors and the moderators.

If the forum stays that way I can see the number of members and hopefully contributors increasing.

To keep it that way I, for one, are quite happy for the moderators to take a no nonsense approach to closing threads and banning contributors.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

LG, this is one of the best topics in a while.

I personally don't try to be mean, even if I am critical (ha) with some of my comments. I try to be constuctive and occaisionally humourous but if I have offended anyone I am sorry. Really.

Yes I do mean it.

Thanks for all the interesting replies. Some points about myself I have noted and shall try to keep it interesting for you all. Kiwi Pie, "I love yous all" Wasn't that on a 12th man cd with the Russian Boxer commenting on the crowd with his trainer Jeff Fenwick??

Cosimo, I think it best we then avoid the group hug type thing.

LG, not knocking you, or anybody else, in any way and I'm not trying to be controversial,
but where's all this come from?  I'm not being funny , honest. I haven't really noticed that much difference!

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't noticed anything on here recently that would have me draping a noose round my neck. Granted, I may not post on here as much as others, but I think my post count would suggest that maybe I'm here enough to have a reasonable idea of what's going on. Might be a good idea for all concerned  to step back and think about what we do on here. How we express our opinions, how we react to other people's opinions. What we think doesn't always translate to what we type.

Speaking from personal experience, this is a well moderated, reasonable site where, generaly, a range of opinions can be expressed. There will always be a minority who will abuse the anonymity of internet posting, but most of the people on here would, I hope, stand behind what they've said.

The real YF will always be here, the wannabes, trolls and the rest of the s**t won't be. Keep the faith. Go The Nix.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

The boxer was Kostya Tzu, Jeff Fenech was his trainer (former 'great' himself who, incidentally, has just agreed to come out of 'retirement' at the age of 184 to fight Azumah Nelson (I think) again... was  a bit of coverage on it over there before I came home.

Sad.

And I also reserve the right to resurrect my sniper fantasy where I wander around the halls of Yellow Fever High taking out the "cool kids" (ie. any YF member I deem to have too elitist an attitude) and protecting the rights of stupid people to say stupid things.

Now if you'll excuse me I must get back to Grand Theft Auto.

Meh,

I reserve the right to tell people to stop being f**kwits if they are being f**kwits (based on my measurements), I reserve the right to arbitrarily ban people if they annoy me, and I reserve the right to lock threads when they annoy me or I tire of them.

F**k the introspection clap trap.

I think some threads naturally lend themselves to abuse, some ideas deserve to be rubbished and some threads are started to incite abuse, and anger. Some of us, myself included find it all too easy to let muppets rile us. That's where our firnds the mods come in to delete the "nasty" posts, thanks HN and crew!!!
