Ice dancing, luge thingamagigs, and what's that downhill aerobatic skiing event?  It's all a bit odd if you ask me.

But Canadians can't get enough of it.

RIP the Georgian luger, very sad news to mark the start of the games.

On a more positive note, I love watching the Ski Jump. It's one of those sports i never watch for four years until the Olympics roll around. I'd like to attempt it one day but would probably come close to death (or breaking all bones in my body).

Three for me, and two for them.

Biathlon is quite weird. But obviously a weird combo of events when compared to Summer Olympic multi-sport events.

I'm waiting for the Curling to start. Great to have the extra channels so you can actually see the sports you want to.

Ive noticed now that the crash video is not on any of the news websites anymore.

I presume that the extra channels are free.
I just cant understand why they have to play more winter olympics on SS3 and 2 when they have 5 other channels

Alexandre Bilodeau just won Canada's first ever gold medal on home soil. LOVE IT!

Speed skaters make me jealous.

And interestingly, shouldn't Football be in the Winter Olympics rather than the summer ones?

Edit: Oh, and Biathlon is one of the greatest sports ever invented.Michael2010-02-17 18:43:55

WINTER FAIL!!!

so watched a fair amount of curling last night and was surprised at how watchable and enjoyable it was

Michael - No. The winter part is more about sports restricted to winter months rather than sports traditionally played during winter.

C-Diddy - Haha good call, many of us saw it coming, Vancouver is known for being the least snowy part of Canada, getting rain instead. Couldn't help but laugh when it won the hosting rights

Downey - Good man. Once you know the mechanics of the game, it's great fun. Incredibly under-rated sport/.

Sky sport need an uppercut.  They bring in 4 channels to cover it, and then last night managed to put curling on all 4 channels at the same time.  Farken.

Was it at least four different matches? They have four sheets at the rink and run four matches at the same time IIRC. Could've been trying to show all of them live.

Though I personally wouldn't do that - as much as I love the sport, I recognise not everyone else does, and would've put something else on as well.

F**k mate I was exactly the same, watched France v China and Britain v Sweden. Outstnding stuff with all the tactics.

When you are here this weekend for the Nix we have it all sussed. Curling, the Nix, how good does it get!

4 different matches but they were delayed.   I quite like the sport, but if you were a keen curling fan then you would miss out on 3 games.

Curling, the thrilling sport that it is, actually has the hottest birds passing stones. It really is quite stunning to watch, when the teams are Russia and Denmark.

Madeline Dupont, marry me. I'll even settle for your older sister.

Paulinho just put it perfectly. Last night we discovered curling. Tonight we discovered women's curling...

They way Anna scrubs the ice is truly a sight to behold.

The Russian curling team must be close to third in my personal rankings, behind the Nix and United!

They should introduce extreme-biathlon next time, where they can shoot each other whilst ski-ing..
