I have been off work for the last 3 days due to health problems, My boss rung me yesterday and told her to tell her if I would be in at work on Thursday so I rung her this morning to tell her I would be, And they turned around and said we have already got some one into replace you.
They for some reason thought I wouldn't be in for the rest of the week but did not bother to ask me. And quite frankly I can't afford any more time off.
What do you think I should do. I have already had a argument with my boss and it is pretty much her word against mine.

mate that's tough, are you on as a temp or permanent....if your permanent staff then you can pretty much return whenever your doctor says you can..if you on a temp contract and they replace you with another temp then you're probably at the mercy of your boss.

You could still be a temp. Or a contractor.
If you are an employee, then they probably can't do what you say they've done.

I know that according to my contract - which is casual - I am not entitled to any specific amount of hours infact they're able to give me none should they want. I am not sure if this is the same for every casual contract or just for the one that is at my particular work place.
In the past the company has used this too punish people, or effectively suspend them without pay. Is a bit sh*t.
Hopefully, your contract isn't like this.

Yeah there seems to be a "you piss us off you'll get no shifts" thing with shift work. Or if a new manager comes in who doesn't like you.
There is however a reasonable expectation that if you get say 20 hours a week for 3 years,it's fair of you to assume that should continue. So of you suddenly start getting just 4 hours, you CAN kick up a fuss and win. Especially if they've hired new people and given your hours to them. This is assuming your availability is the same.
This has happened to me,I kicked up a fuss and got my hours back. Something similar is brewing at my job now,a manager hiring family and giving them all the hours, while staff who have been there for years have had their hours significantly dropped.
As for NHPeter, they should have asked you before replacing you. I suggest turning up at work anyway. If there's nothing for you and/or your replacement to do,that's their problem.

yeah, if you are on shift work then normally you'll have in your contract a clause which states the minimum hours you'll be required.....you should check for that and call them on it.

What they are arguing is that I told them I would not be in back at work this week. Which is absolute rubbish and I don't know where they got that from.
They have also hired new stuff and started to give them equal hours as me which I don't think it is fair. I complained and got some of them back.
