some are good some are bad and i think what i may just do is get  a compatible vodafone and unlock it at this stage no phone there jumps out at me.

as with all telecom phones, they are all ugly and over priced!The network is effectively Voda's 3G on a different band. I'd expect Telecom to fu*k it up royally, as they do everything else.

A number of the phones that Telecom are releasing on XT are cheaper than in other countries. The Samsung s8300 for example is cheaper than Telstra(Aus) (about $350 cheaper). There are plenty of others that are as well. One exception is the Nokia N85 which is around $450 more.

The cheap phones are ugly but you usually expect that.

And don't forget that these are just the handset prices, they haven't released the prices for phones on plans.
