[QUOTE=footy4life]What the hell happend in the first game on pitch 1?! All the players left the pitch to fight with one of the teams warming up? Anyone know what started it?  [/QUOT

That was my fault. I suggested a bit too loudly that the West African Team was full of Albinos and their was a rush for the body part auction. Bloody Witch Doctors!!!

monkeyboy, isn't this etnic tournament just a social kick around for teams aligned on racial lines? Are you surprised that there are honourable "ethnic" players who get called in to boost the usually weak ethnic immirgrants or refugees to this land? Mind you, most of these recent immigrants will lack decent understanding of English so any rules in place will be useless because they will plead ignorance. If you keep these in mind and go out and have a good kick around, won't that be enough?

Like Bogan said I am all for a good time and a good competitive kick around. But when you have a team that has 14 Central League or Cap Prem players plus 4 NZFC players then things are just starting to get a bit stupid.

West Africas Team has, Andrew Abba, Jamie Mason, Luke Wilson, Michael Fiifii, Jimmy Haidakis, Mikey Halikias, Johnny Gerondis can't remember the rest but there was only one African Abdul from what I saw. Just makes it stupid for everyone else competing.

Well in a negative way, might aswell start the bobsled attack... im sure those boys can't run with one leg. and im sure they have a lot more to lose than any of you older blokes... then they might think twice about playing in a social comp and taking the piss..

a, you go home happy with a smug smile on your face
b, They have 4months of Physio-- therefore struggle to play NZFC and in some cases catch the first flight home.

hey but they did win 8-0.. good work guys

Personally I would seriously look at the aims/kaupapa of such events if players were changing 'ethnicities' from year to year-

there seems to be two contradictory aims at play:

One is the competitive drive of an ethnic group to be the best, to represent their colours and country in a very real way- whether that is a group like Oromo or Somalia which has now been in NZL 15-20 years (ie.e still a short time) or an established culture like the Greeks or Italians

The other aim is sociability/inclusion/community- the pride which comes from belonging and not just winning.

actually they are not contradictory but need work from organisers to set ground rules or a tournament format whcih allows both to flourish

the point of difference of these tournaments should be culture, otherwise its just another sprig mark on an already sodden field.

Don't despair, learn fast and beat them at our own games. Include few more honourable ethnic players in your team from now on and if give them tattoo or body paint job  if necessary. Afterall, you get lily-white blonde Maori doing maori dance, why can't and why won't you do the same to your "ethnic" team? Ethic Tournament is just a name and underneath, you got to want to beat and win! Rules for those real ethnic immigrants or refugee arrivals will be impossible to police and implement because they will plead ignorance. Lateral thinking, mate.

Like I said alot of other teams have "honorary" citizens such as myself, last two years for Sudan, this year for Cambodia. However I have had alot to do with the Sudanese boys and have been playing regularly for Cambodia in the Sunday League etc.

Not everyone has the contacts to pull together such a team anyway,  I just think its crap that they are allowed to masquerade under the "West Africa" team name. Wouldn't have really cared so much if they had been say "EurosoloKiwiGreek"

Good games this week I though, well organised and well refereed. Nice to see some younger refs out there this week to. Burma United played well, I'm backing Vatican City to win it this year though.

Lol - that's if we make it through to the next round after defaulting this weekend
Vatican City defaulting this weekend?

That's why we are called Eurasia

but yeah I can understand, if West Africa are as good as everyone said, I think they're gonna win it hands down this year.

Marist tourny in Napier this weekend - top 4 or so teams from the club will be up there. So no fielding a team - sorry. This was cleared with organiser when we entered our team

Re Vatican City v Fiji Airport: Just a couple of extra goals in our game and we would have been in business. Had heaps of chances in the second half to put in the goals we needed, but it wasnt to be. Best of luck to UK Kiwis for the tourny.
