The 5th Multi Ethnic "Mini World Cup" Tournament 2010 From 4th September to 9th October, 2010
Awakairangi and Harcourt Parks

As the excitement of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa winds down,  planning has already started for our own Mini World Cup (The 5th Multi Ethnic Football Tournament) in September and October 2010.

To build on the success of past tournaments and to look at ways of promoting football, this year we will see the introduction of a womens competition for 2010. At this stage it will be open to only 4 teams and will run towards the end of the mens competition.

The 2010 edition kicks off on the 4th September to 9th October, 2010 with preliminaries, quarter and Semi finals at Awakairangi Park, Totara Park Road and both Women's and Men's Finals at Harcourt Park Upper Hutt Soccer Club home ground.

Please note there will be a double header on the second week of the tournament, that is, two preliminaries games on the weekend of 11th and 12th of September.

Entries are now being accepted for the 2010 Upper Hutt Mini World Cup tournament closing Friday 6th of August 2010.

The entry fee still remains $100.

We will only consider the first 20 teams that put in and pay for registration even if before the closing date.

Fixtures drawn 7.00pm at Upper Hutt H2O Extreme swimming Pool on Wednesday 11th of August, 2010.

We look forward to receiving your entry(s) as soon as possible. Best wishes and a successful and enjoyable tournament.

All team registration details are available on the Activation website: www.activation.org.nz

Foxy,
just a couple of questions.

1) where do we send the registration fee?
2) how many players per team? Where do we email the team list to?
Cheers
G.

Hi does anyone else on YF have a team in this competition? If so, where did they send their team list/registration fee? I went on the Activation Website but found no information regarding the Mini WC. Emailed Tayo and saw Tony M. at the Mall yesterday but apart from that, I've received no info about the competition. And since the draw is meant to be done next week I'd like to confirm that my team has been entered.

Oromo - Somalia I think.  Different ethnic group maybe ?  Competitive Culture Kicks side.
Sangham play Culture kicks and play a pretty physical style.

Due to a lucrative new contract including the next years supply of discounted bakery food, I have made a long and measured choice to employ my long lost great-great-great-aunt three times removed Cambodian heritage to open my chance to play for Cambodia this year. Will Sudan miss me? I doubt it.

Oromo are indeed an ethnic group from Somalia, and Oromia is a disputed homeland for the Oromo people. Lads from Oromo kept jumping ship to Somlaia and vice versa in Culture Kicks

with today's cancellations there is a high chance that the regular club season won't be over (including play off/out, catch up games) by September 4th. I guess there is no chance of the WC games being pushed one week forward if that's the case?

ahahha funny! I actually looked at the tables this morning but it didn't even dawn on me. I guess that a 4-0 loss could have been a fair result as we have Steelo in goal!!

On a more serious note, it'd be interesting to see what sanctions have been dished out to the red cards given on game day 1. It's always a shame to see people with a massive anger management problem turning a game of football into their only way to unwind.

ah! quite the opposite, actually, Foxy! From what I've seen, whenever I play non-club football, it's often the 30-40 something, slightly overweight, married and with a mortgage who vent their frustration in a game of football. I think there hasn't been a single year that I've not been involved in a game where someone threatens a referee and gets sent off as a result.

Love the tournament, obviously. It's always 1 or 2 idiots who spoil the fun for everyone.

Ah well you've missed my category all together then!!!
I blame the weather for players having to jam a whole season into  one game because of cancellations, including fights and arguing with refs. Do you think we could introduce cage football along the same rules as cage fighting where the last player alive is the winner. Maybe all  the idiots that ruin it for everyone else can join but I'm not sure who would want to ref it. I can think of a few that it may suit. They will either be oblivious to what is going on around them or joining in.

Which teams were the worst behaved after the first couple of rounds?
Permalink Permalink
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Lost 4-3 to a two man Fiji team, i.e Pita and Wasaki. Good guys though but I seriously reckon Pita must have ran a half marathon in that game he was absolutely everywhere.

West Africas team absolutely ridiculous. One West African and 14 Central League players. Bit of a joke to be honest. I know other teams have players that are not from your ethnic group but when you have a team like that its just a bit of a scoff at the competition as a whole.

The Refs mostly and Tayo. Tayo thought he'd scored a goal and, being the boss, counted it anyway.

Went down and watched today for the first time this season! My favourite game of the day was Sudan and Street football (?). I think that was the game! Played at 2 O'clock anyway. Probably the game played in the best spirit of the day. Some cracking goals! Helped by a ref who let it flow. What a stupid tackle for that red card though, really stupid thing to do! Number 9 for Sudan (blue team?) scored a great goal!

The Street Football team had 4 players in there who are off to Rio on Tuesday next week to represent NZ at the Homeless World Cup.
Fabian, Kaha, Kevin the goalkeeper and Fraser who scored the goal make up half the NZ squad that will be away for 10 days and good luck to them.

Next year can I enter a team of Phoenix reserve players and just say that we're Mozambique or something? Perhaps a ruling needs to be entered where as you have to have at least 50% of your ethnic team as that ethnicity

monkeyboy, isn't this etnic tournament just a social kick around for teams aligned on racial lines? Are you surprised that there are honourable "ethnic" players who get called in to boost the usually weak ethnic immirgrants or refugees to this land? Mind you, most of these recent immigrants will lack decent understanding of English so any rules in place will be useless because they will plead ignorance. If you keep these in mind and go out and have a good kick around, won't that be enough?

What the hell happend in the first game on pitch 1?! All the players left the pitch to fight with one of the teams warming up? Anyone know what started it?

Good games this week I though, well organised and well refereed. Nice to see some younger refs out there this week to. Burma United played well, I'm backing Vatican City to win it this year though.
