What's the latest gossip for Cap 2 2014?

Any big off-season signings? Who are the early favourites?

Anyone know when full fixture list will be out?

Often wondered myself. Never figured out why !

Mostly due to scheduling complications with venues I think. Plus to protect against typical angst if there is ever a modification to the draw I'd say.

Yeah, once you get below Cap 1 you have a real variety of what venues are available from week to week.  No point putting out a draw when there's no guarantee that the venue will be available on the day you've scheduled.

wairarapa united are looking quite handy,we played them a few weeks ago in a friendly got thumped 5-1,they have a lot of under 20 heartland players mixed in with a few good older heads we have them first up hopefully we can do better this time round

This. One of the clubs main focuses is to get the reserves up to at least Cap 1, and ultimately Prem. Anything less than 2nd place will be a disappointment to the club. And rightly so, as they're starting to stack this side from this season.

Phil Patterson turning back the years and bagging four goals for Upper Hutt v Island Bay in a 6-0 win

Permalink Permalink

Great result against last years champs. What was the IBU side like? Pretty different from last year I imagine with all the changes going on at that club.

Upper Hutt looking to add some experience to last years squad or will Patterson be back in the 1st team at some stage?

He has hung up his Central League boots I believe.

Any matched reports from the 2nd round? Interesting result between Upper Hutt and Stop Out.

Looks like last years champions are really gonna struggle this year.

upper hutt stop out game was a game of 2 halves really, first half upper hutt went 1-0 up through pedro but stop out mainly dominated with upper hutt just smashing long balls to phil Patterson and pedro, SO then equalised a minute before half time through a great strike from there striker. 2nd half saw SO score early with a tidy finish from same guy, then Patterson went down in box after a push In back, I didn't see it but apparently it was never a penalty, even one of the upper hutt 1st team players I talked to who was watching said it was nott a penalty, that bought it 2-2, before stop out scored again 3-2, great curling effort, then a long ball beat the 2 centre backs for Patterson to race on under pressure to put it past keeper making it 3-3, both teams look very dangerous this year

Yeah Chopper, plenty of change for IBU thirds and basically no pre-season whereas last year they entered Hilton Petone. Starting to come together now so think they'll improve and they've played two of the better teams in the division so hopefully be fine in the end.

I'm sure DV will appreciate the compliment. Great result for Lower Hutt against that other team from beyond the Rimutakas.

Sounds like Upper Hutt are putting out a Golden Oldies side with the like of Pedro and Patterson!

Even with them two in their the average age of the Upper Hutt side would barely be 19 or 20 at a  guess.

Good result mate.

Matchup of the round has to be Wests vs Upper Hutt this weekend. Anyone care to make a prediction? Suspect Upper Hutt will stack the team for this one.

Wests - UH 3:1....Have to, really :-)

Chopper, I don't understand your comment about Upper Hutt stacking cap 2 for game v wests. Would UH risk a central league game to help cap 2?

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Permalink Permalink

Exactly. It would be crazy to weaken Central League team to try and strengthen Reserves for promotion, especially with UH a potential for relegation from CL (early stages I know). And not 'stacking' if within regulations anyway!

Permalink Permalink

Sensitive topic...

Stacking might be the wrong term. Still get the impression they'll look to maximise their resources between 12:15 @ Endeavour and 17:30 @ Maidstone. Don't think they can afford to go 5 points behind Wests at this stage of the season given their clear ambitions to win the league.

Permalink Permalink

Yep well said. Maximise resources. And if it's to the benefit of the club then good on them.

So basically some players play +1 games while others (who presumably have paid their subs) get less game time. Is that how it works?

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Permalink Permalink

Not necesarily. What's to say those who don't make match day squad play at the next team down. There are always injuries and absenses lower down so it's not often they wouldn't find a game.

welcome to senior football Global Game….
usually the top two teams in a club pay no subs or a reduced sub as it is about putting the best team on the field not giving little Timmy his turn cause he has paid his subs like you do in junior football….
as for dropping CL players there are rules that i am sure the Hutt know well enough so don't cry just keep calm and play football….
and if western sub's want they can do similar

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

At my club the senior team always takes priority. Always.

I'd like to see something like the trophymanager game has...

If you drop a player to your reserves, they have to stay there for 3 games (maybe 2 in this instance due to shorter season)

Not that I know what exactly the rules are currently. But I'm working from my perception that they're too loose currently.

Tegal please see rule 6.4 of CF regulations which says 4 players and i see no number of games except the 14 game rule…..

and i am sure every club knows these rules backwards or they need to read them…..

Was making a suggestion to what the rule should be. Not stating what the rule was (hence the last sentence where I said I don't know what the rule currently is....)

You are making suggestions but don't know the rules? Not a good suggestion IMO

A rule that see's a player having to stay in a clubs reserve team(for examle) for 3 games after being dropped down doesn't make sense for how  a 1st team and reserve team set up should ideally work.

Imagine a coaches predicament when he wants to bring in johnny to the 1st team to replace Barry. Sorry johnny I know you have played really well the last 2 games and Barry has been appaling but I can't bring you in this week because you have to wait 1 more week till you have been back in the reserve team for 3 weeks. ?????

The existing rule is clear. Three players may be dropped down 1 team within a club and 1 Player dropped down two teams within a club.  The player only needs to be on the card (Not necessarily even get on the pitch) to be one of those four players, so for example if Upper Hutt take there Reserve team GK as a CL sub one week, the following week he is classified as one of the regraded players the following week , irrespective of whether he takes the field or not.

The primary reason behind the rule is to allow "fringe or bench" players to get game time rather than spending a year on the bench.

Upper Hutt were officially challenged three times on the rule last year and found to be within the rules on all occasions , The club is well aware of the rules. Do they "maximise use of resources" , of course they do but it is always overridden by the needs of the first team first and foremost. If a club with ambitions does not make best use of resources within the rules in this way then more fool them.
