Nah it was their RB but a dodgy name change and they get away with it.

Today IBU Reserves lost 3-2 to WU reserves. Newtown Park looked good at the start but quickly disintegrated and some soft goals were scored/conceded.
IB had a disallowed goal with last kick of the game too.

WU disallowed a clear cut goal in the first half too. Player called offside after a shot came off the bottom of the cross bar, midfielder ran from outside the 18 (past IBU defenders) and hit it into the net. The ref said "the more I thought about it, the more it seamed like the wrong call" and apologised. A bit hard for the refs with no linos though, I guess. He had a good game apart from that.

That ref usually does higher grades ie ones that have linos, and he occasionally refs lower grades so he can get specific practice in watching offsides without the benefit of linos. He admitted to me he probably got that one wrong and blamed himself for just relying on a non-existent lino.

What's the haps if Mar, Dreamers or united come second in this league is there promotion to add to the cap premier debacle with 2nd/3rd teams in the league?
Permalink Permalink

They just don't go up, or there is no play-off... unless Wharf or United get to Central league, which looks unlikely.

can only get promoted if the teams in cap prem get promoted or relegated. In all 3 cases not going to happen so none of these 3 can get promoted if they come 1st or 2nd

wellington united will probably be unlucky because their cap 2 team cant get promoted to cap 1 either unless their camp prem and cap 1 teams get promoted.

So only wainui can come up? Wonder what they will do if Upper Hutt go up and Taranaki out. Naenae survive for another year?
Permalink Permalink

i think promotions are always completed first so in that case i think naenae stay up.  but who knows tawa could be coming down from central league at this rate so anything could happen

Wharf v Petone scheduled for KP this week. It will be miraculous if we play (more rain scheduled), and ugly if we do. You are both important and influential men. Perhaps you can have the rain stopped?

I will try and pull some strings. Though maybe call it off now so we can take advantage of the BB/4K Corona special on friday?

The player in question was still registered with the sharks. Ends up it was a capital football spelling mistake so he was registered with both clubs.
No loss of points for bnu.

As per NZF rules the fist registration stands. Lots of this last year and requests to C/F to carefully check date of birth if name similar. They appear to have learnt 0.

I'm picking a good game for the Dreamers v Utd. We play a lot better when we don't have to put up nets and actually get to touch a ball pre-game.

Lets hope Newtown is OK for that game, has been destroyed recently. I'm looking forward to the game, our boys will be up for it but we might be short of personnel after all the cards last week that will force 3 or 4 1st teamers out.

I did suggest to Trevor once that WCC should ask a few volunteers to go to McAllister with pitchforks and sort out the surface water. That used to be the traditional treatment. But WCC don't do that anymore and volunteers create an OSH issue. After that I felt quite tired and never raised it again.

I'm gonna say Newtown won't be fit for two games this weekend, which is a shame.

On that, did you see how good Dave Farrington Park was on sunday? Newtown had the exact same work done to it pre season but Newtown seams to have other problems deeper in the profile and needs a sh*tload spent on it do get it back up to scratch.

Wellington United __ Karori Dreamers __ Newtown (12.30) NOW Melrose

Well there is, it'll just cost a lot more. What they did to it is the more economic solution, but it doesn't always work. The fact that it's TW's home ground might make it higher priority but of course WCC only has so much moolah.

North Wellington 1 Olympic 1

Olympic lucky to get a very soft penalty(player tripped over the ball in the box) in the 2nd half as well as keep all their players on the pitch ( 4 or 5 bookings for Olympic I think and 2 for Norths).  Norths were unlucky not to come away with the win and had the better of the game, hit the post in the 2nd half as well.

Lovely warm weather at Alex Moore as usual.

1-0 ,Dreamers over Well Utd. Credit to Ian Rogers rant in the oranje rag about the dreamers being a Masters, B team which inspired the lads to a conclusive win ...could have been 3 or 4 if not for some erratic strikes from our veteran striker, one of which took out some of the zoo monkeys

Island Bay 1 - 3 Wainui

Pedro had an absolute shocker. 2nd Wainui goal was at least 2 yards off-side and he even put whistle to mouth before deciding to waive it on (And Wainui coach agreed).

Then with 10 to go and the score 3-1 Island Bay got a penalty but the keeper should've been sent off. Pedro gave no card. Keeper cleared the ball into his defender on the edge of box and ball was heading towards goal. Young IB striker was leading the race between he and keeper till keeper took him out about 8 yards out. There is absolutely no way it was not a red and he got nothing. If that wasn't a case of ridiculous bias from Pedro I don't know what is.

Needless to say penalty wasn't converted anyway (it hit the cross-bar), but you never know what would've happened had it been a reserve keeper (or someone else) standing in goal, and how that last 10 minutes would've panned out against 10 men with IB heads up.

In terms of the game itself both teams enjoyed good periods, Wainui just finished better.

Heard Brooklyn drew nil nil with Petone so it really is going to be a scrap for 9th (and probable safety)

Yeah saw a bit of that game and the dreamers were deserving winners. Disappointing result for united having strung a few good performance together during the year including beating Olympic but now look like settling for mid table mediocrity. Whilst united have a number of quite good technical players and I am sure much fitter then the dreamers they were always going to struggle in this fixture. The dreamers are a much better team with experienced players playing in the higher legs in the past and been with each other for a while thus having much combination's. United need to look at getting some experience on their side and keeping the same group of 13-14 players playing in the same positions for as much of the season as possible. Or else they will continue to have to settle for mid table

Yeah their coach said that was the second time he''s done it.
He's given them a good chance of promotion, that's for sure.

Ken, Ive played against most of the teams in this league now (and all of the top 6) and I think United has  over-achieved to be 3rd on the table, which is a credit to somebody or something (coach or work ethic). That's my observation anwyay.

You should probably take into account the fact that the united reserves team has changed quite a lot week in week out and quite a lot since the start of the season. It's a shame and it's tough for the coach that he's lost a few key players for various reasons throughout the year which has deffinately affected our chances of [at least] making that second spot ours.

The bench on Saturday was (1) our original keeper who has just recovered from a broken thumb - as and outfield player, (2) a guy with the flu, (3) a school kid who'd played 90 mins in the morning (4) a part timer who turned up at half time. Also a few part timers who started.

As far as we're concerned, looking at the squad we started the season with, we have under-achieved.

In saying that Top Left, I am sure most second teams have these issues as alot of players are on the fringe of first and second. The second is like a revolving door for fringe players. If you do not have a big enough squad you won't win leagues. These days you need to have a large squad, and if you don't you shouldn't expect to be winning anything.

No doubt and I bet Olympic, for example, have very good depth in their squad/club. We don't get help from our thirds. It's a mix of that and a couple of key players going overseas + students coming and going for us. I was just pointing out to Marius that it's not likely that he's seen our best team.

Reserve team coaches do have a tough job.
